Now, a complaint filed Tuesday by Wheeler in United States District Court in the Southern District of New York threatens to spark new conversation.
In the complaint, Wheeler alleges "Fox News was working with the Trump administration to disseminate fake news in order to distract the public from Russia's alleged attempts to influence our Country's presidential election," according to his attorney, Douglas Wigdor. ...
The lawsuit alleges Ed Butowsky and Malia Zimmerman, a Fox News contributor and journalist, respectively, "fabricated two quotations and attributed them to Mr. Wheeler," and included them in the now retracted article. ...
In the complaint, Wheeler seeks damages to be determined at trial to compensate him for mental anguish and emotional distress, and loss of earnings from his job.

Complaint: Case 1:17-cv-05807 US Federal Dist Court SD NY
Lawsuit: Fox News concocted Seth Rich story with oversight from White House - CNN Money
Fox News sued by Rod Wheeler in Seth Rich story case - Business Insider
"Mr. Wheeler was subsequently forced to correct the false record and, as a result, lost all credibility in the eyes of the public," the lawsuit says. "Mr. Wheeler has suffered irreparable damage to his reputation and his career will likely never recover."
Most of the quotes came directly from Mr. Wheeler’s mouth.
Oh goodie. Discovery.
Apparently Real News got in the way of somebody’s Fake News and now the purveyor of the Fake News wants to go to court.
Good luck with that.
Blaming TRUMP??? He;s dumber than I thought!!
Future CNN contributor?
“Oh goodie. Discovery.”
+1
I recall him being on Hannity’s television show giving out info he had on Rich. So there’s no one to blame but himself if info is false.
By all means PLEEEEEEEASE pursue this!
This will tossed out of court. Poorly drafted. He could only hope for an out of court settlement.
Somehow Fusion GPS is involved in this story, that, or Kevin Bacon’s got to be tied in some way.
Rodger Stone claims Awan was with Seth Rich the night he died ,
Believe it or not
The NPR story, Behind Fox News' Baseless Seth Rich Story: The Untold Tale touches on that.
Fox's report went sideways shortly after it was posted online and aired on Fox & Friends. It was denounced by the Rich family, D.C. police, Democratic Party officials and even, privately, by some journalists within the network. Within hours, Wheeler told other news outlets that Fox News had put words in his mouth.Despite those concerns, Wheeler appeared on the shows of Fox Business host Lou Dobbs and Fox News star Sean Hannity, who devoted significant time to the story that night and in subsequent days.
He had plenty of opportunity to pipe up, on FoxNews, about the words that FoxNews had put in his mouth. He had that notion, according to the NPR story, but didn't act on it.
I think he's just a crapweasel looking for a payoff.
Meanwhile, it's leading the news cycle, with the theme being that Trump is personally managing the news in order to deflect attention from his obvious guilt in colluding with the Russians.
Six degrees to Fusion GPS ...
Does “Wheeler” have a first name?
Typical takes by the left:
Yesterday, ESPN was all over the Colin K. non story and actually said no one cares about him except the msm. Broke clocks. It’s much the same with all “news” stories these days.
OK, thanks.
The two ‘fabricated’ quotes:
My investigation up to this point shows there was some degree of email exchange between Seth Rich and Wikileaks, said Wheeler.
My investigation shows someone within the DC government, Democratic National Committee or Clinton team is blocking the murder investigation from going forward, Wheeler said. That is unfortunate. Seth Richs murder is unsolved as a result of that.
