Shall We Fight Them All?

Saturday, Kim Jong Un tested an ICBM of sufficient range to hit the U.S. mainland. He is now working on its accuracy, and a nuclear warhead small enough to fit atop that missile that can survive re-entry.

Unless we believe Kim is a suicidal madman, his goal seems clear. He wants what every nuclear power wants -- the ability to strike his enemy's homeland with horrific impact, in order to deter that enemy.

Kim wants his regime recognized and respected, and the U.S., which carpet-bombed the North from 1950-1953, out of Korea.

Where does this leave us? Says Cliff Kupchan of the Eurasia Group, "The U.S. is on the verge of a binary choice: either accept North Korea into the nuclear club or conduct a military strike that would entail enormous civilian casualties."

A time for truth. U.S. sanctions on North Korea, like those voted for by Congress last week, are not going to stop Kim from acquiring ICBMs. He is too close to the goal line.

And any pre-emptive strike on the North could trigger a counterattack on Seoul by massed artillery on the DMZ, leaving tens of thousands of South Koreans dead, alongside U.S. soldiers and their dependents.

We could be in an all-out war to the finish with the North, a war the American people do not want to fight.

Saturday, President Trump tweeted out his frustration over China's failure to pull our chestnuts out of the fire: "They do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk. We will no longer allow this to continue. China could easily solve this problem."

Psalm 27:1-3;

1
The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
2
When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
3
Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.

4
The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.
5
For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6
Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.

7
Hear me as I pray, O Lord.
Be merciful and answer me!
8
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
9
Do not turn your back on me.
Do not reject your servant in anger.
You have always been my helper.
Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me,
O God of my salvation!
10
Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.

11
Teach me how to live, O Lord.
Lead me along the right path,
for my enemies are waiting for me.
12
Do not let me fall into their hands.
For they accuse me of things I’ve never done;
with every breath they threaten me with violence.
13
Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living.

14
Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Perhaps we should encourage and help South Korea develop nuclear capabilities. Their missiles would not have to be long range.

Unless we believe Kim is a suicidal madman,

He may not be suicidal, but he is provoking his own suicide. As for being a madman, I think the verdict on that has been in for a while.

I guess Buchannan thinks that appeasing NK is the answer. Just let them aquire enough nukes and they will be happy and we will be safe.

Is Pat Buchannan a suicidal madman?

Kim Jong Un assassinated his own brother in Malaysia via assassins using VX spray, one droplet of which will kill.

That proves craziness of the man. And aerosol VX should worry the hell out of everyone as much as a nuke.

An agent with a “bug bomb” of VX at a high schhol basketball game could kill thousand or more at one time.

Delivered to ISIS or Al Queda it would be devastating.

We could be in an all-out war to the finish with the North, a war the American people do not want to fight

Here's what I want.

1) I want all Americans, military and civilian, withdrawn from South Korea within 30 days.

2) I want two Trident subs on patrol in the North Pacific constantly, with 336 warheads each, pretargeted on the DPRK land surface so as to provide 98% assured 5 psi coverage of the entire area.

3) I want the President to send an envoy (I prefer John McCain because of his heroism) to meet with Kim and to deliver a letter.

4) 48 hours after Senator McCain's safe return, I want the President to read the letter on worldwide TV, saying that, in the unfortunate event of either the approach of a DPRK missile within 250 km of Hawaii, Alaska, or the US mainland; or in the case of a nuclear detonation however delivered anywhere on US territory including Pacific Island dependencies and overseas military facilities, that the Trident subs will launch their missiles and that DPRK will cease to exist.

That's all I want. I most certainly do not want valuable US Army and USMC assets or our precious servicemen's lives being wasted in an unnecessary ground war on the Korean peninsula.

Where is the montage of all the Rats in the last couple elections chastising us all about how important it is to sit and talk with dictators in Iran and NK?

“Unless we believe Kim is a suicidal madman, his goal seems clear. “

Both Kim and the Iranians unfortunately could well fall into te suicidal madman category. I think our hand will be soon forced.

U.S., which carpet-bombed the North from 1950-1953,

Excuse me Pat but, with statements like that, one can only believe your are blowing $%^& out your ass. WE didn't carpet-bomb,N.Keorea, should have, but we didn't. Better be glad Gen McAuther didn't get his way or we would have a unified Korea today, albet with a "Carpet of glass along the Yalu river

There are two large USAF bases in South Korea--Osan and Kunsan. Lot's of valuable USAF assets, too!

Just representing my service!

I agree with you. I'm a little tired of the world drawing us into their conflicts (and then we get shit on). That is the purpose (or so I thought) of the UN. I do agree with President Trump about China doing their part.
