Sen. Charles Schumer says the Food and Drug Administration should launch a formal investigation into the health consequences of chemicals used in fast food packaging.
The New York Democrat on Sunday released a letter he sent to the head of the agency asking for the investigation into phthalates, which are used in plastics to make them more flexible.
Some phthalates have been linked to health issues, both developmental and reproductive. People can be exposed to phthalates if they eat or drink food that's come into contact with containers made with the chemicals.
Schumer pointed out that some types of phthalates have been restricted from use in children's toys. He said an investigation would determine how safe fast food packaging is.
The FDA did not immediately comment.

Part of the Better Deal, I guess. Making sure that folks in Mississippi can’t get styrofoam? (They outlawed it in NYC!)
Mr. Schumer, be honest.
Are you just trying to change the subject away from Debbie W. Schultz and other matters?
What do they ship styrofoam in?
This asshat needs to get a life. Preferably in another country
Which means they are crucial to keeping Democrats in power.
Which means the party might pressure Schumer to shut up about this. :)
The GOP needs to come up with an idea to tax, regulate, or investigate things that are near and dear to the progressives’ hearts. Not sure what that would be though. They seem to hate everything and everyone.
I guess immigration. But we’re already trying mightily to do that.
A company that makes whatever will replace phalates (sp) has made a huge contribution to Schumer.
Sure glad all those other important things effecting the US were taken care of like you know, muzzie terrorism and those Christians denying service to the GAYSTAPO. Yep.
Check his stock portfolio. See if he invests in a particular co.
so then obvoiusly Shumer has a constituent (LOBBIEST) who manufactures fast food packaging and does not use the chemical and wants this bill passed so he can get the packaging business, this absolutely has to be the only reason for this.Schumer could not care less about real peoples lives and Im pretty sure he would never stoop to eating the little street peon food himself
Should put a warning on the meals, “Don’t eat the packaging stupid”!
How about an investigation into Schumer?
Didn't he try to do something a few yrs ago that had something to do with cereal?
Schumer’s poll numbers are dropping. He needs to pretend to care about the people again. Chucky is a con man pure and simple.
As a regular fast food eater, heck, I just finished eating an American Taco Bell lunch, then it would be good to know and resolve. If this is simply a Bloomberg gammit to punish us for eating fast food, no.
