Sen. John McCain of Arizona criticized President Donald Trump's announcement Wednesday morning that transgender individuals will not be allowed to serve "in any capacity" in the US military.
McCain, who is the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and served in the US Navy for 23 years, said Trump's statement was "unclear" and it served as "yet another example of why major policy announcements should not be made via Twitter."
The Republican senator said any Americans who meet the military's medical and readiness standards should be allowed to continue serving.
"There is no reason to force service members who are able to fight, train, and deploy to leave the military — regardless of their gender identity," McCain said in the statement. "We should all be guided by the principle that any American who wants to serve our country and is able to meet the standards should have the opportunity to do so — and should be treated as the patriots they are."

One who is taking hormone therapy drugs is NOT in a readiness state. It is not a good idea to give weapons to people with mental disorders.

Agree. The military actually rejects quite a lot of people; high blood pressure, ADD, diabetes to name a few which for the most part be medically controlled. The problem with people who’s health, well being and ability to function normally is what happens if their medical supply is disrupted? As I understand it transgenders must remain on med’s for the rest of their lives. The military requires healthy bodies for good reason.
Actually, the kind of tumor he has effects his frontal lobes, according to the reports I heard. The frontal lobes of the brain control judgment. The frontal lobes are the part of the brain effected in Oxycontin and heroin use and are responsible for much of the crime and antisocial behavior we see in addicts. John McCain has no business performing in his position in the Senate at this time. If his frontal lobes are effected, allowing him to make a decision effecting the population of the US is the same as Jeff Bezos turning over the operation of Amazon to a heroin user. Anyone in his condition should be banned from decision making until it is clear that his frontal lobes are capable of serious thought processes. This is my educated opinion in this matter and I think it is a travesty that no precautions are in place in situations like this where the disease and the effects of it are known. Of course, we have to assume that we have users of mind altering drugs in our Congress. The difference is that we do not know who they are. We do know abut Senator McCain's condition, and, sadly, his disease has robbed him of the man he used to be.

Trump has embraced faith and prayer, and does not shy away from those who wish to pray over and for him. Can you imagine John McCain doing this, and allowing the cameras to see it?
