How Your Diet Can Save the Planet
Fortune ^ | Jul 19, 2017 | by Matthew Prescott

With America preparing to exit the Paris climate accord, mayors and governors are setting their own climate goals, protests are erupting, and social media is all atwitter. But the reality is that combating climate change is largely a matter of personal responsibility—and one of the easiest and best steps we can take concerns what we put on our plates.

Take protein, for example. Worldwide, over 80 billion land animals are farmed for food. To produce just a single pound of meat, those animals may each eat upwards of 15 pounds of feed—meaning mass meat production funnels far more resources through animals than it gets out of them. One report from the World Resources Institute found that even the most efficient sources of meat convert only around 11% of feed energy into human food.

There are whole, plant-based foods readily available to help us each curb climate change. We can replace the chicken in our chicken salad with chickpeas. We can try black bean burgers, and fill our sandwiches with sautéed Portobello mushrooms instead of turkey for a meaty, smoky texture and flavor. The list of options is only as limited as our creativity in the kitchen.

We clearly each have the power to show the world—starting with our families, friends, and neighbors—that we needn’t wait for Washington in the war on the climate change. As individuals, each of us can rise to meet climate change’s challenges by adjusting our own habits to create a cleaner world.

Smoked turkey leg today.
New York strip steaks tomorrow.
Fresh ground chuck burgers the day after.

I guess I’m just not getting into the spirit of saving the Earth.

The Gulf Stream globalists expect to form the core of the global Green Inner Party. There they will continue to enjoy the finest foods and most advanced gadgets the world has to offer — while deciding your fate for you.

If you work very hard and show them your unwavering loyalty you may be permitted to join the global Green Outer Party. You will be allowed occasional servings of meat - and air conditioning on a rationed basis.

The rest of us will eat insects and swelter — for the good of the planet.

If liberals keep worshipping and having abortions, eating veggie diets, making friends with Jihads, having dangerous gay/anal sex, using drugs to cope with life, our descendents will not have to worry about them.

Universities/Colleges are controlled and operated by the Intellectual Yet Idiots, who have been controlling our lives for decades. This so called expert writer on veggie diets and Gorebull warming, appears to be another Intellectual Yet Idiot, hell bent on telling us how to live our lives.

Nassim Taleb Exposes The World’s “Intellectual-Yet-Idiot” Class!

What we have been seeing worldwide, from India to the UK to the US, is the rebellion against the inner circle of no-skin-in-the-game policymaking “clerks” and journalists-insiders, that class of paternalistic semi-intellectual experts with some Ivy league, Oxford-Cambridge, or similar label-driven education who are telling the rest of us 1) what to do, 2) what to eat, 3) how to speak, 4) how to think… and 5) who to vote for.

But the problem is the one-eyed following the blind: these self-described members of the “intelligenzia” can’t find a coconut in Coconut Island, meaning they aren’t intelligent enough to define intelligence and fall into circularities?—?, but their main skills is ability to pass exams written by people like them.

With psychology papers replicating less than 40%, dietary advice reversing after 30 years of fatphobia, macroeconomic analysis working worse than astrology, the appointment of Bernanke who was less than clueless of the risks, and pharmaceutical trials replicating at best only 1/3th of the time, people are perfectly entitled to rely on their own ancestral instinct and listen to their grandmothers (or Montaigne and such filtered classical knowledge) with a better track record than these policymaking goons.

Indeed one can see that these academico-bureaucrats wanting to run our lives aren’t even rigorous, whether in medical statistics or policymaking. They can’t tell science from scientism?—?in fact in their eyes scientism looks more scientific than real science. (For instance it is trivial to show the following: much of what the Cass-Sunstein-Richard Thaler types?—?those who want to “nudge” us into some behavior?—?much of what they call “rational” or “irrational” comes from their misunderstanding of probability theory and cosmetic use of first-order models.)

Open up all that land that liberals locked up to “preserve” and turn it into farm land. We could feed the world and make a bundle of money doing it.....

[ To produce just a single pound of meat, those animals may each eat upwards of 15 pounds of feed ]

This is stupid because animals that we use to produce meat are mostly all ruminants that are more efficient than we omnivores at breaking down down chain cellulose.

People cannot eat grass alone, they tried in N. Korea and they tend to starve to death...

It may very well take less resources to raise 15lds of low quality feed than it would to produce 5lbs of high quality vegetable human food.

However there are ways to COMBINE the two, in other words, you can raise carrots and feed the parts you cannot feed to human to a cow and eat carrots WITH steak.

I grew up on a farm and we raised corn, that corn can be used to make sugar and actual corn on the cob to eat. No we didn’t just throw the stocks away, we either ran the cows on them after the harvest or we baled them up after the combine collected the corn.

Also beef can be raised on ground that normally cannot be used to raise human consumption crops due to low water availability, hilly terrain, fields that are too small to deal with, ect.....

When you farm and have livestock it is a matter of “waste not, want not.”

But these dumb fools who pump out this anti-human propaganda don’t realize how the world ACTUALLY works...

Oh, and if liberals want to eat less meat and more chickpeas and bean-burgers, well... so much more for me, and at a cheaper price, too!

I mistakenly thought that Forbes was a center-right publication because Steve Forbes was/is a semi-conservative, but the articles at that site are disgustingly left of left.

No different than FNN.

I wonder if they count corn being raised where you graze the stocks as part of the land being used to raise animal feed?

They whine about efficiency, Then work to increase the efficiency you damned dolts!

One idea is to take the “mini-cattle” breeds and breed them with “belgium blue” to get small must muscular cows that produce far more meat per acre than current cows.

But NAH, gotta promote “muh veganism” agenda,...

I love to point out to libtards that the beans and other veggies they love generate a lot of stems and leaves which are then fed to animals to make meat. So i thank them for the meat...

This pisses them off....
