Lest we forget it was the Democrats holy figure St. John of Kennedy who first sent advisers to Vietnam in the early sixties. Leftist historians are running with the narrative that if JFK had lived we would of gotten out of Vietnam. All speculation on their part, but this was a war started by a Democrat president.

November 1, 1955 — President Eisenhower deploys the Military Assistance Advisory Group to train the Army of the Republic of Vietnam. This marks the official beginning of American involvement in the war as recognized by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

July 8, 1959 — Charles Ovnand and Dale R. Buis become the first two American Advisers to die in Vietnam.

Sorry, but it started with Ike. And I am a great admirer of Eisenhower.

Yes it was a war started and escalated by Democrats, and was a war of choice.

Remember how the liberals always criticized Bush for “wars of choice”??? Well, Vietnam was a war of choice and we got into it because of Democrats. Sometimes inconvenient truths are hard for the liberals to swallow.

Seems a lot of folks ignore or forgive or just don’t care as long as “camelot” wasn’t made to look bad. I call them fidiots.

When Ike left office, we had about 900 men in Vietnam as advisors to the South Vietnamese Army. By the time JFD was killed, that number had risen to about 16,000.

Actually, the Democratic president who first got us into Vietnam was Truman, who funded 80% of the French military costs in the region between 1945-1954.

Then, in 1954, Eisenhower took over with advisors and assistance to the south.

JFK increased the number of advisors dramatically and then, of course, LBJ started with actual ground troops, the first being perimeter protection for US air bases in the south.

Eisenhower was the first to send military advisors to South Viet Nam, not JFK.

JFK is famous, not for increasing the number, which he did, but for reacting to the book “The Ugly American” by requiring special training for the Special Forces that included good deeds with the anti-Communist South Vietnamese.

LBJ is famous for giving the war to McNamara and the whiz kids who had no clue. They undid everything JFK intended by sending us 550,000 guys over there with no training of any kind.

So far, I have not seen an accurate history of the war from either left or right. The closest thing to reality is a couple paragraphs in Susan Brownmillers “Against Our Will”.
