Just because the US sold the Saudis billions dollars of arms, doesn’t mean they will learn how to use them. Few have the desire to learn and even fewer have the desire to go to war (except the jihadis).
Decades ago, I took ‘power engineering’ at SAIT. At that time, SAIT was the world leader in training power engineers and had an excellent petroleum engineering technology program. The Saudis sent many students and their families, at their government’s expense, to Calgary’s SAIT, to learn petroleum engineering technology and how to operate boilers and ancillaries, so important to oil, gas and petrochemical production.
Most of these jokers were used to paying underlings to do their jobs at home, and thought that they could goof off at SAIT like they did at home. They would come to class at noon, when the program began at 8:00AM. They would often skip classes altogether and go shopping with their wives and spawn. Many seemed to spend their nights at the bars, ‘tagging’ young girls while their wives were at home looking after all their mini-Mo whelps.
They were the most ill-tempered, arrogant, conceited group of miscreants, ever to attend SAIT. (BTW, it was one of the instructors who described the actions of these layabouts!)
I suspect the Saudi armed forces are all bluster and little substance. Look at how well they did in Yemen!
And the Inclusive Tolerant LGBTQ folks also forbade a Jewish organization from marching in their parade. Anti-Semitism, while bowing to the Muslims. Mm hmmm.
