G20: USA abandons climate consensus
DW ^ | July 8, 2017 | Not stated

G20 leaders agreed on condemning violence by demonstrators in Hamburg but were less united in their opinions on climate change and free trade. Bernd Riegert reports from Hamburg.

Host Angela Merkel made a special appearance at the very end of the G20 summit, when she spoke to police representatives. She thanked them for putting their own safety on the line to ensure the security of heads of state and government and their delegations while they met in the Hanseatic city.

The German chancellor was unambiguous in her strong condemnation of the violent clashes that militant anti-globalists had engaged in over the previous two nights. "Individuals who act in this way are not interested in political critique. Those who act in this way are operaInside the trade fair building where meetings took place, a final communique was eventually produced that remained very vague in a number of areas. All 20 entities were unanimous in their belief that the regulation of financial markets must continue, as well as the need to combat terror financing and tax evasion. These issues are the core concerns of this "world government," which was founded as an answer to the 2008 financial crisis.

Unanimity, which is a G20 summit tradition, came to an end, however, on the topic of fighting global warming. The final tally was 19 to 1 on that count, since the USA recently withdrew from the United Nations Paris Agreement on climate change.

In Hamburg, US President Donald Trump also refused to acknowledge the emissions' reductions anchored in the Paris accord.ng outside the democratic community." Merkel also promised immediate support for the victims of violent acts.

The G20 has only been around since 1999. Just another unnecessary round table.

Consensus is for sheep. The EU is made up of sheep — one need only see macron and mom to see it.

And “consensus” and “science” do not belong in the same sentence, paragraph, statement, treatise, book not any work.

Having spent a fair amount of time in China...*recently*...I can guarantee that the clearest day,air pollution-wise,I ever saw there is 10 times worse than the worst day I've ever seen in the Ruhr Valley,Ohio or the LA Basin.

I'd wager everything I own that in 10 years, while Western signatories have damaged their economies by adhering to the rules,to see China's air even worse than it is today. That's because Chinese politicians know that life is cheap there and the population would rather die at 50 owning a Kia than die at 80 owning a bicycle.

My son was in Guangzhou for a while. It’s smoggy there most days.

One day, the winds were just right, and the smog blew away, and there was a clear sunset. It was considered so unusual by the locals that they were out taking pictures.

But, I think maybe China will clean up. But, they won’t do it for ideological reasons if they do. They’ll do it to keep popular discontent down, and to show that the government cares about public health matters. The industrial push is maturing; maybe now they can plow some of the gains back into something of a cleanup.

Of course, if idiots like Obama and Merkel want to tie the hands of their own economies, it’s all to the benefit of the Chinese, and they’ll play along, while they improve their relative position.

The Paris Agreement seeks a complete end to the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil.

Then they better abandon their plans to eliminate nuclear power from their countries because renewable energy, wind and solar are never going to replace carbon based fuels in an industrial nation.

It is simply impossible.

Third World nations can not afford nuclear so the First World nations should just shut up and get out of their way to explore for fossil fuels and build their economies.

"We came to Hamburg with the demand that 'social inequality' was put on the agenda. That did not happen. But that inequality is destroying social cohesion. People who feel left behind get frustrated and run into the arms of right-wing populists. And that is a threat to democracy," Kalinski told DW.

GAG this idiot.

the USA recently withdrew from the United Nations Paris Agreement on climate change taking $100 billion a year from America and giving it to poor countries.

Fixed.

Everyone agreed that the USA should hamstring its own industries, and pay the bill for a huge International leftist bureaucracy...

...except Trump.

In truth, this is more fake news. Several countries oppose the global warming scam. They just took a campaign driven characterization by Merkel (which they knew to be wrong) to promote their narrative that Trump is so far from normal that all shun his positions. It is not true.
