Homelessness and crime » Assault on baseball player, fatal hit-and-run are the latest examples; House speaker asks if its time for extraordinary measures.
News is spreading across the country on the state of homelessness in downtown Salt Lake City and it isn't pretty. Just over the Fourth of July holiday, a professional baseball player was attacked and suffered a concussion.
And a car plowed into a group of homeless people on a sidewalk, killing one and sending five others to the hospital.
These are just the latest in a string of events that continues to frustrate officials, police and business owners surrounding the effort to make the Rio Grande area safer.

Escalating violence around homeless shelter has Utah House speaker asking: Is this a job for the National Guard? Escalating violence around homeless shelter has Utah House speaker asking: Is this a job for the National Guard?
Ping...
Is this one of the homeless shelters the Fraud overloaded with his terrorist BFF “immigrants”?
There wasn't this problem when Obama was _resident. /s>
Homeless stories. Haven’t seen those in a while. Wasn’t paying attention. Do we have a president with an (R) after his name again?
Bums and other assorted drunks, fagins, thieves and occasional murderers.
They assume long-term homeless people will behave just as a suburban family would behave if they suddenly became homeless.
The homeless are back after 8 years.
The question is why are the homeless congregating there? Are people giving them money? alcohol? Are they in Salt Lake for welfare benefits? Are there drug dealers there keeping them high? What will bringing in the national guard do to solve the problem? will It just chase them somewhere else ? is the homeless shelter just enabling their behavior? A lot of questions, not very many answers.
Is it Bum Fights II or are they attacking the pedestrians, etc?
The homeless suffer from BO’B withdrawal symptoms. He was to find homes, transportation and telephone communication for the ‘folks’ Human Nature to be angry when something promised is never seen. Utah needs a true leader (as does every other state in the Union).
TIME TO CLONE TRUMP! Another 3 dozen like him should be the ticket.
Is it possible BO’B might still be handing out paychecks to those in the tents. Reimbursing them for their shenanigans?
If not all tent residents, then only a few who know the ropes.

Sun rises.
Sun sets.
Taxes are levied.
Death comes to all.
Reports of homelessness and poverty skyrocket under Republican leadership.
Majority of homeless and street prostitutes are addicted to illegal drugs.
The problem can not be tackled with more law enforcement with more spending for which we do not have the cash in Treasury.
Majority of illegal drugs are smuggled in via the southern border. Only a big beautiful wall will address this problem.
Upsetting the apple cart for the whole city, County of Salt Lake...they have no where to go...the homeless shelters she promised to get are not there...so these people are right there...
Last month our Gov. asked that the State Liquor store be closed and moved away from there, but with a million dollar sales, they are not moving any where...
We also have the illegal aliens mixed up there with the homeless, gangs and other elements that are unhealthy...
No one wants to do anything about anything...and all the promises made are gone...now what do you do???
She said that Salt Lake City is a ‘sanctuary city’ so now the Feds can take that over, but the problem remains, they go south...into the community I live in, and further south in Utah...
Until we get mental health centers up and running, until we can get the ‘sanctuary cities’ out of here, until we get a closed border, until, until, until...this is what we hear...
And thank you all you ‘open border’ people and that includes the Catholics and the Mormons, this is the mess we live in as every other city in America does!!!
I agree with you on the border. Also, hire more police and have harsh penalties for dealers.
You nailed it... I expect they will be dragging the AIDS Quilt out of moth balls soon as well.
Not all Catholics are open border people. I’m not.
I didn’t say all Catholics were, I’m Catholic and I want closed borders!!!
Thanks for the clarification. At least that makes two of us!
