Seattles experiment with a higher minimum wage has detrimentally impacted workers with less pay and fewer hours. The $15/hour minimum wage law was passed in 2014. It was on a phased four-year timetable. Right now, its at $11/hour, which has also screwed over workers. The latest chapter in this fight is interesting since it appears city hall reached out to friendlier data crunchers at Berkeley to compile a report that was very accommodating of minimum wage hikes a week before the University of Washingtons study was set to be published criticizing the initiative for the reductions in workers pay. Lets have the Seattle Weekly set the primer:
Now, Fox News has obtained emails showing that Mayor Murray gave the Berkeley team a deadline for their report, noting it should be published a week before University of Washingtons analysis to preempt the study.....

It’s meant to drive out low wage earners and create a white liberal utopia.
What will “driving out” low wage earners mean? Care to elaborate?
more room for robots
NON Print version:

At the core of it, the mayor’s office is dishonest. They know the enforced $15 minimum wage will kill jobs, but it appeals to those who are ignorant of the laws of economics who think you can get something for nothing.
Try link at post 6.
Probably means you’ll be cooking a lot more at home and there will be a lot less crime.
“At the core of it, the mayors office is dishonest.”
Of course it is...all democrats are liars.
I have been saying that for ever since they started this $15 thingy. But now that it is hurtung those who is was supposed to help, the supporters of this garbage are due for a rude awakening.
Really? You need someone to explain to you the unintended consequences of minimum-wage laws?
The purpose is not to help those at the bottom of the ladder. Those unfortunates really don’t matter. They don’t even vote.
The purpose is to induce general wage inflation that will benefit those voters up a few steps on the ladder. They will get inflation induced raises that will be hawked as the result of the glorious campaign of the Democrats for the great American workers that matter.
Inflation reduces debt. Inflation effectively reduces pension debt that can never be paid otherwise.
Inflated wages can mean higher income for Trade Unions.
Not at all. Rhetorically asking a simple question to identify the intent of the remark. If you were to have read my subsequent post it would have been obvious.
Many years ago I fell into the trap of believing that inflation was bad.
But then I had a friend who explained how he had personally benefitted greatly from inflation. And I came to see how governments benefit from inflation.
I decided that instead of railing against inflation, I would arrange my affairs so that I would also benefit from inflation -- and it worked. Decades later, I am retired but have no fear of inflation. On a theoretical basis I still think it is a bad thing, but have positioned my finances so that our family wealth increases with inflation.
Never bet against the government, and never overestimate the intelligence of the average voter, especially in economic matters...
Sorry but after an almost eight year hiatus, my flag was anxious to fly again. Happy Independence Day!
$15 an hour kills jobs and those without jobs go on welfare and become dependent on the people that killed their jobs in the first place. Another scheme to create lifelong Democrats.
These laws are working exactly as intended. Leftists are destructive and evil.
Welcome back from wherever you been at. Guess I finally boarded the train during you hiatus after lurking for a long time. I know it was a rough 8 years but the next 7 and a half should be better. ;-)
