United Nations (United States) (AFP) - China's UN ambassador on Monday warned of "disastrous" consequences if world powers fail to find a way to ease tensions with North Korea which he said could "get out of control".
Ambassador Liu Jieyi made the remarks a day after US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the threat posed by North Korea's missile and nuclear tests.
"Currently tensions are high and we certainly would like to see a de-escalation," Liu told a news conference at UN headquarters as China takes over the Security Council presidency in July.
"If tension only goes up... then sooner or later it will get out of control and the consequences would be disastrous," he said.
China is pushing for talks on dismantling North Korea's nuclear program after its ally carried out two nuclear tests last year and a series of ballistic missile tests.

Yes and no. To do that, they’d need a different guidance system. You can’t just put any ballistic missile on a ship and have it perform the same.
ROTFLOL
An alarm bell from the Norks' most enabling partner.
What's the Chinese word for "chutzpah"?
China and North Korea, the subject of your thread.
Got it. Didn’t know if you meant US/SK.
Psst, China, hey, did you know that you’ve got tens of millions of people downwind of North Korea, especially if nuclear exchanges are made?
Maybe it might be worth your time to stop beating around the bush and actually slap North Korea around so they know you’re serious. Because you’d likely lose fewer people if they went nuclear against you vs nuclear against Japan or South Korea.
Pretty obvious that China is not the power they claim, they can’t even control tiny North Korea. This has to be very embarrassing for China, showing the entire world they are powerless to stop North Korea.
Lemme get this straight:
RIGHT when there is another high-viz, highly resented USN patrol in the South China Sea, all this Nork stuff all of a sudden busts out..?
The two aren’t CONNECTED..?
Come on, even a fool can see that...
They aren’t powerless. They just don’t want to. China is fully aware change in NK doesn’t go their way. Imagine a fully industrialized Korean Peninsula with access to the full resources and rare earth minerals at China’s doorstep. An economic rival and brain drain border. They can’t have that.
I like that ides!
If we could know where the pot bellied pig is withing a mile radius, we could drop the Mother Of All Bombs (MOAB), and turn him into dust. There wouldnt even be anything to bury for a memorial grave site. We would only need one B2 to fly one in. Maybe theres a couple up in orbit already.
The ChiComs need to stop warning the world and warn North Korea. This is a game the Chinese play using NK to tweak our nose. I think Trump is sick of it.
The B-2 doesn’t carry the MOAB, but it does carry two of the Massive Ordnance Penetrator.
A few Massive Ordinance Penetrators is all we need.
