We’ve all seen this meme around the interwebs, right?
“Legal gun owners have over 200 million guns… and 12 trillion rounds of ammo. Seriously, people… if we were a problem, you’d know it!”
I’ve also seen one that claims we have over 400 million guns and 24 trillion rounds of ammunition. The fact is, while there is no definitive way to tally all the firearms in the United States, it is commonly accepted and reported that there are roughly 300 million firearms in the hands of law-abiding Americans.
But has anyone else noticed that number hasn’t moved in years, even in the 8 years Obama sparked an increase in gun sales, the gun run during Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and after the NICS background checks system set new records for 15 straight months?

this is terrible. according to a certain CA congresswoman, we have over 1 billion infants killed every year by Trump supporters (another reason to impeach) because of the 32nd amendment. or something like that, something really conservative and bad.
Most of gun owners I know have more than one firearm, most have several,so I would assume the 300 million number is very low...
But I’m told that the only purpose of a gun is to kill people.
Obviously they aren’t all being used for that purpose.
I’ve had to replace the tires on my Honda Elephant because of all the ‘guns on the streets’.

I doubt if anyone really knows who many firearms are floating around. The very first firearm I bought was at Grant’s Department store, they had whole barrels full of German Mausers from WW2, $18 each, your choice. I haven’t been to a gun shop in years, but everyone I had been in had racks of Mausers, 30-06 Springfields, 303 Enfields, and even the old trapdoor Springfields, so I’m sure that there are probably hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of these type weapons sitting in closets all over the country.
We really have to do something about firearms... it’s about time. After all, its killing 96 million Americans every day.
That number can’t be right. Has to be more like 4-5 each on average (I am NOT average ). Plus hundreds of rounds each. (No....not average there either ).

200 million guns for 320 million people. A good start, but we have a ways to go folks. I won’t be happy until we have a gun for every man, woman and child in America. Sure, these will be heavily concentrated among conservative men, but at least there will be a 1:1 ratio.
