Trump to CNN: “What about all the other phony stories”?

After getting burned on a single-sourced story last week, CNN made some major internal changes to their reporting process. Three journalists involved in the retracted article resigned, and management imposed new restrictions on any reporting on Russian interference in the 2016 election. That’s not enough for Donald Trump, who took to Twitter this morning to complain about CNN’s performance on other stories:

Actually, the ratings are way up — and that might be part of the problem. Project Veritas launched a new undercover video series last night called “American Pravda,” and its first target is CNN. James O’Keefe caught a CNN producer on camera discussing the internal pressures on the newsroom to feed the Russia story, which has spiked the ratings over the last several weeks — even though few at CNN apparently believe it’s a real story:(video at link)

Sources also said the three journalists responsible for the retracted story — reporter Tom Frank, editor Eric Lichtblau and Lex Haris, who headed the CNN Investigates unit — were urged to resign.

“They called them in and said they’d pay out their contracts, but they should leave immediately,” one source said.

Zucker was afraid of facing a high-profile suit from Scaramucci while the US Justice Department weighs the proposed $85.4 billion media merger. (emphasis mine)
