Free lunches for Chicago kids in need offered at 96 locations this summer

CHICAGO — The end of the school year doesn’t have to mean the end of school lunches for Chicago’s children in need.

Starting Monday, the Chicago Public Schools LunchStop summer meal program will provide free lunch to children ages 1-18 at 96 outdoor community sites throughout Chicago. Children do not have to be CPS students to receive a free lunch.

These summer meals are funded through the Summer Food Service Program sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education. Last year, LunchStop served approximately 95,000 meals at 50 locations throughout the city.

LunchStop locations operate from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at locations across the city.

Officials say only 14 percent of kids who receive meals through the national school lunch programs continue getting them through the summer.

Here’s an idea for urban areas. Why don’t we just take the children from their homes at birth and institutionalize them. They can have a place to sleep, exercise equipment, and three squares per day. It will prepare them for their future.

LOL true. At this point, what are the “parents” required to contribute, other than the sperm and eggs? Gross.

Moochie's hometown, the chillen will be feasting on kale and free-range, gluten-free, low-fat goat's milk.

A parent that won’t, or can’t, provide food to their excretions should have those excretions taken away to be raised as productive members of society.

You can get Dominos with your EBT however you have to pick it up, they can't deliver it...

The culture must demand that the biological mother and father take responsibility for their offspring.

Various forms of government ‘compassion’ only perpetrates the problem.

Problem is there’s no shame in throwing your children to the lions, assuming you didn’t kill them in the womb first.

They practically do that now for a large number of families.
The families to know how to game the system and decide to do so, are okay with giving up responsibility and expense of child care to the programs.

Some folks qualify for and need these free programs for a few months or years, and that’s fine, but at some point, the programs will begin making decisions for your child as though he or she was their child. The overstep may be disguised as ‘healthcare’, i.e. meds for hyperactivity, counseling for birth control or sex re-assignment w/o including the parent in making the decision.

Is happening all over the USA, including here.
Conditioning children to grow-up thinking that there
IS such a thing as Free Lunch.

A smarter idea. Go back to Families who cared for kids, with one or both parents working at a job that earns money and gives them pride.

Why would school ending have any impact on whether a 1 year is fed? This is nothing more than a redistribution exercise. I don’t know how they do it in Chicago, but here, the kids go through the line multiple times, while their moms sit nearby with strollers and stash the uneaten meals inside. When mom gets 6-8 meals, they leave. Nobody monitoring how many times kids go through, nobody saying anything to mom who is stashing meals, no rules about needing to eat food on the premises, no checking ages of people going through the lines. It’s a free for all. I’ve even heard moms I know can afford groceries discussing how they plan their daily schedules around making sure they’re in the park at lunch time, so they don’t have to fix lunch for their kids, because “it’s more convenient.”

I don’t get this. If these are poor kids, and their families are already getting food stamp SNAP EBT, whatever public benefits are called, then why, on top of that, do we need to feed them over the summer???

They should demand free delivery. Those poor folks don’t have transportation!

Yep. Orphanages, childrens homes and foster homes are far better places for many children to be rather than living with mom and her current boyfriend or raised in the streets of Chicago and places like that.

That menu has been repealed, right? Now they will starve (Mo’s words, paraphrased) eating crap that Conservative menu planners enforce upon the lunch room ladies.

one wonders how much could be saved if we stopped giving extra food stamps to families who have their kids fed for free at school? and how much food stamp fraud would decline...
