The nation's top state election officials say they'll keep fighting a Department of Homeland Security order that designates state and local election systems as "critical infrastructure," and aren't happy with the message they got this week that the designation will remain.
For the moment, that fight means lobbying congressional delegations to use whatever power is at their disposal to make DHS back off. Barring that, a separation of powers lawsuit may be their last option, but it's not clear yet if any state or coalition of states is willing to take that step just yet.
Week Twenty-Two of the Trump White House Watch Full Screen Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson will take over next month as president of the National Association of Secretaries of State, a group that originally opposed the critical infrastructure designation when it was created in the last days of the Obama administration.
"The association still stands behind the resolution that we passed in February," Lawson told the Washington Examiner. "We are against the designation."

Translation - Democrats fully support voter fraud.
The DHS was trying to hack into state election systems......the same DHS that is telling us Russia tried to hack into state election systems.......the same DHS that can “plant” Russian fingerprints after hacking to confuse investigators.
Don’t forget that the Obama Admin wanted federal oversight over state elections. States resisted.
This entire Russia hacking claim is just a means to give the federal government control over state elections.
Those States who are against this intrusion are probably staffed by those who were voted in invasively by illegals casting votes. They have no intention of losing their jobs over possible fraudulent incumbency.

The secretary of state of Georgia is asking the Department of Homeland Security to explain what appears to be an attempted breach of the states computer systems that house its voter registration database by someone in the federal government.
In a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson dated Thursday, Georgias Secretary of State Brian Kemp said the state had discovered an unsuccessful attempt to breach the firewall of state computer systems. The attempt occurred on Nov. 15 and was linked to an IP address associated with DHS, he said.
At no time has my office agreed to or permitted DHS to conduct penetration testing or security scans of our network, wrote Mr. Kemp, a Republican. Moreover, your department has not contacted my office since this unsuccessful incident to alert us of any security event that would require testing or scanning of our network.
We are looking into the matter. DHS takes the trust of our public and private sector partners seriously, and we will respond to Secretary Kemp directly, a spokeswoman for DHS said.

Obama Administration Plotting to Usurp Control Over Elections
New American ^ | 8/18/16 | Alex Newman / FR Posted by Nachum
Under the guise of providing increased security for critical infrastructure, the Obama administration is plotting to insert itself and the federal government into the American elections process.
While voting is constitutionally the responsibility of state and local officials, Obamas Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson, pointed to the alleged threat of cyberattacks to justify the latest proposed usurpation of power.
The controversial scheme was floated amid growing national concerns, fueled in part by GOP presidential candidate Donald Trumps warnings of a rigged election, that Americas electoral system might be vulnerable to major manipulation. Critics and experts, though, warned that the White House scheming may be a first step toward illegally nationalizing the electoral process with all the dangers that would entail.
Homeland Security boss Johnson, a leading luminary behind Obamas illegal amnesty plot, has said repeatedly said in recent weeks that the administration was thinking of issuing a decree declaring elections to be critical infrastructure in need of supposed federal oversight and protection.
We should carefully consider whether our election system, our election process is critical infrastructure, like the financial sector, like the power grid, Johnson told reporters in Washington earlier this month. Theres a vital national interest in our electoral process.
In a phone call with state officials, he reiterated those comments, offering help with elections. (Excerpt) Read more at thenewamerican.com ...

They tried twice to hack into Georgia. Our SOS called them out on it.
First rational totally perfect puzzle piece fitting explanation.
A great example of the long, poisonous, sucking tentacles of the swamp creature.
They need to back off. Elections belong to the states not the federal government. Realistically if the states can’t defend their elections from cyber attack they need to go back to paper ballets.
It is as simple as that. There is no way a forign power can hack a paper election without invading the USA.
“Those States who are against this intrusion are probably staffed by those who were voted in invasively by illegals casting votes. They have no intention of losing their jobs over possible fraudulent incumbency.”
The trouble is Federal officials are far more likely to try and hack the election than the Russians ever would be. Unlike the Russians the Federal officials actually have a strong and consistent motive to do so, which is their own personal hold on power.
The feds need to keep their corrupt hands out of state run elections. As to keep the system decentralized and difficult to control.
If they think a individual state official is stuffing the ballot boxes they should just charge them for the crime otherwise elections need to be transparent, with verifiable voters and vote courts.
If the State election equipment is subject to being hacked, they can always go back to paper ballot based system. Nobody can hack a paper ballot elections without control of the physical location of the paper ballots. Which is to say controlling the state poling sites.
I thought of paper, too, but it’s still scanned.
The real threat to our election is and always has been the very politicians who obtain power from them.
Foreign governments rarely care, and even more rarely is it even possible for them to do anything about it.
Paper ballot elections require physical access to the paper to ‘hack’. Thus the only way to throw such elections is from the inside in either fraudulent voter registration or fraudulent vote counting.
Both actions can only be conducted by Americans, who oddly enough are the only lot of people who really care enough to do them.
“I thought of paper, too, but its still scanned.”
It is true the electronic vote counting system can be hijacked. But as long as the paper ballots still exist you can always recount them.
In most cases the vote scanning system is very simple and always offline anyway. Its not that difficult for state or local officials to verify its not been hacked.
