PARIS (AFP) -

France is to stop granting new licences for oil and gas exploration on the mainland and in overseas territories, Environment Minister Nicolas Hulot said Friday.

"There will be no new exploration licences for hydrocarbons, we will pass the law this autumn," Hulot said on BFMTV.

President Emmanuel Macron said during his election campaign in February that he was opposed to exploration for gas and shale gas in mainland France.

Another thing that is never considered in this; the transmission in an electric vehicle is lubricated by a hydrocarbon, as are the axles and many other components. I know certain types of generators require lubrication as well. Certainly all the light weight plastics and vinyls used in producing various types of vehicles (an computers) come from oil/hydrocarbons. Not certain to what extent hydrocarbons are used in manufacturing tires. To get the materials needed to produce much of anything requires oil for the ships and trains to transport the stuff. What a fantasy land these people live in.

It is like the San Francisco law maker that wanted to entirely ban salt from the city; not a clue what it is used for and completely unaware of the health benefits of iodized salt. Many are this way with sugars too. I had students that were clueless as to why all those wires ran down the side of the road.

Virtue Signalling Idiot especially if there are no major oil deposits in France to begin with.

This might not be as stupid as it seems. With a glut on the market and the possibility that new wells might not be economically feasible at current prices, one could consider holding the oil in the ground as a strategic reserve. Let the other nations use up their supply, as long as there is not a balance of payments issue.

Of course, there is the issue of financing the jihad as we have been doing for decades.

This is a good plan for the future because when they reach their ultimate condition - a 9th Century Muslim satrapy - they’ll have little need for hydrocarbons. Goats eat grass, dhows use wind power, and the women won’t be driving around shopping for anything.

However they will keep sending warplanes ships and troops to other countries to ensure France has access to oil

Why frack France when they can destroy Libya

Probably not. France already gets 75% of its electricity from nuclear power.
