France's sweltering heatwave is not over yet, and in Paris it's not just the temperatures that are high, with pollution levels peaking in the French capital forcing authorities to take action.
Most of France is baking under the sun after national weather agency Meteo France increased the number of departments on alert for heatwaves to 67 (see map below) on Wednesday afternoon. And to make life more difficult, a peak in pollution linked to the heat has hit the French capital.
French authorities take heatwaves extremely seriously, and it's little wonder. Back in August 2003, a heatwave killed 15,000 mostly elderly people across the country.
It's so fairly easy to cool down if you wrap yourself in a wet sheet and wrap your head in a wet towel, especially if you have a fan. It would keep you from getting heat stroke at least. They should do public service announcements about this.
People who haven’t been to France think it is a first world nation, and our media would like us to believe that is the case.
Very far from the truth, and given the current wave of Mensa candidates that have taken over it is only getting worse.
So quaint huh. Living without AC as standard equipment for your house. Europe in the summer is iffy any time. Guess that’s why they invented the Alps. ;-)
Getting in a tub of cool water works pretty well. I learned that from an episode of Hill Street Blues when I was a teen. lol
Also, must be a lot of sweaty armpits in that country right about now. Hope everyone makes it through ok.
Although, usually it's in August, when the youngins' go on holiday, leaving the aged parental units to suffer w/o A/C.
France is, by definition, a first world nation. And, yes, I have been there many times.
Thanks to high energy costs and a European attitude about air conditioning being unhealthy, thousands will die in these heat waves. Ditto in Australia.
Ahh, the yearly “Heatwave in France!” headlines. Right on time. Was thinking about them just a couple days ago. How many elderly will die from the heat because their kids couldn’t be bothered to buy them a $10 fan? Same here in the US and there’s already public service commercials asking for fans. You’d have thought by now everyone would have half a dozen fans. Mine is at least 15 years old so it isn’t like the’re disposable and you need another every summer.
Living without air conditioning and with muslims is hardly first world.
Temps all the way up into the low 90s. In other words a mild Summer’s day here in Texas.
France acts like they’re the only place in the world that it gets hot... in the summer. Big boo hoo, Paris hit 94 today. Their 10 day forecast is 70 to lower 80s and rain.
I ran around the house in nothing but a wet towel the summer it got to 117 here in TX. It’s summer. Surprise! It gets hot. It’s supposed to be 98 today and 103 tomorrow and no cooling rain and I haven’t bothered to turn on the a/c. Open a window and turn on a fan, people.
France is a 1st world nation.
Been there plenty and love it so much I made my FR handle “Vendome” after one of my favorite spots “Place Vendome”.
The Ritz and Intercontinental Hotels are there, as are Bulgari and Cartier.
But, the best part is a statue of Napolean sitting atop a spire, in the middle of Place Vendome, which was created from melted cannons captured at The Battle of Austerlitz.
You can take a stroll from there to the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysee, the Tuleires, The Louvre and d’Orsay.
And yeah, I walk everywhere....
I’m in West Texas, 103 today and forecast 108 tomorrow. At least I’m not in Phoenix.
Sitting at a Paris sidewalk cafe now must be like stopping in the monkey house instead of walking briskly to escape the monkey stink.
We should send them a couple Conex containers of that new deodorant that makes your armpits smell like rose wine.

That’s it? Color me unimpressed. We just spent a whole week higher than that in Michigan.
Look at the number dead because people don’t have air conditioning
