Beijing (AFP) - China opened its gates to US beef imports this week, giving American cattle farmers much sought-after access to the country's massive market following a 14-year ban.
Shipments of eligible US beef have been allowed to enter China since Tuesday, the General Adminstration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement.
Announced last month, the lifting of the beef embargo was one of the first concrete results of trade discussions that began when Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Donald Trump at the US leader's resort in Florida in April.

nope.... not quite tired of winning yet
Go ahead and elaborate.....?
My Winometer is almost out of Warranty.
Hope it doesn’t break. It wasn’t designed for a MAGA overload.
WINNING!
More China, more. You can do a lot more.
USA has the world’s largest excess reserves in Natural Gas (NG) by 100 X. China can pay for it with a 100-year USA exclusive supply contract with USA option to renew for another 100 years (100 + 100) via Seoul acting as an intermediary reseller.
Seoul will be happy to build a billion dollar LNG facility and pay for a new fleet of LNG ships operating out of Long Beach, CA. They will buy all LNG from the USA to supply themselves and then resell to all of Asia.
China can take a back seat.
If China doesn’t like the deal, they can pay the USA a 35% tariff while the US Government launches crash programs for robotic manufacturing that will bring down China’s reliance on cheap sweat shop labor.
It won’t get that far though as China will fold within the first two years of dickering with US resolve.
This is a small first step, in the right direction.
However, we run a MASSIVE trade deficit with China.
China needs to open their markets. Bigtime.
I had hoped for a more aggressive trade policy from Trump, than I have seen yet.
This is a start. But it is a very small start.
What Trump needs to do, is to be much more aggressive on his trade policies.
America has been being sold out for far, too long.
I had hoped Trump would be fighting more for American jobs. Maybe he will. I sure hope so.
Trade, and the border, were the reasons I supported the guy from the very beginning.
Trump, be more aggressive on this issue.
I think he understands all of this, furthermore, he has a lot on his plate.
But we’ve got to start taking in chicken from China—who wants to be eating that???
can i eat some chinese dog now. been wanting some kobe dog for a long time./s
I support the guy. I really do.
I am just saying, China has structurally abused the America/China trading policies since they opened to the outside world.
Trump needs to be (far) more aggressive with China.
They are a trading partner, but most of the trade goes from Chinese factories, and is sold to America.
This has been going on now for about 30 years. Every single year, getting worse.
And worse.
And worse. Always worse. It certainly doesn’t help any that so many American firms are ready and willing to sell their entire operations to China.
But structurally, something really has to change.
China needs to be MORE OPEN TO FOREIGN GOODS.
We do not need to just sell beef. We need to open their entire system.
Nobody has done that. And it just keeps getting worse, every single year.
Republicans have been aok with that. Democrats have been aok with that. 16 of the 19 presidential candidates in the last election, were all on the side of China.
Only Trump, Sanders and Santorum were running last year, with any sort of pro-American platform.
I think that is part of the reason Trump won.
But he really, really needs to be more aggressive on this subject.
Trade and the Border, are the two issues which won over quite a lot of Americans in the election.
Be for what you ran on, Trump.
Good job winning, but don’t forget we voted for what you were running on.
Once more, you beat on Trump for something that Congress has to endorse.
I would not want a Trump that could force Congress to do anything just by wishing it. He might be virtuous today but what if he becomes vicious tomorrow?
I haven’t seen any Tilapia that wasn’t from China for a few years now.
Right—but you know to avoid the Tilapia if you want to.
Now you’ll never know where that restaurant chicken came from—but you could probably make a pretty good guess.
We could sell *ALL* our beef to China as far as I’m concerned.
I haven’t had a steak in years. Way too $$$$$!
I load up on pork and chicken when it’s on sale.
The freezer in my basement earns its keep.
You don’t know where your meat, eggs, oils coming from and their qualities at the restaurant.
Allowing mystery meat into the country (COOL has been repealed) is not my idea of #winning or #MAGA.
Here’s hoping Trump will get mandatory country of origin labeling for meat back on the books.
Chinese chicken guaranteed to only make that worse.
This is such a BS announcement! I worked for the US Consulate Hong Kong. Hong Kong imports so much American Beef and it is then sent into China. All this announcement does is make it legal and allow it go into all of China instead of having to transit Hong Kong first!
