White ex-employee at Infosys in Plano files suit, claims company favored workers from India

Infosys, the India-based information technology consulting firm with an office in Plano, is facing yet another reverse discrimination lawsuit asserting that it creates a hostile work environment for workers who aren't from India or South Asia.

Erin Green, former supervisor at Infosys, filed suit this week in the Eastern District of Texas in Sherman, alleging that he and black and white staffers on his team were denied raises and promotions, and that other "non-South Asian" workers were berated by South Asian company officials.

Green, of Frisco, is white and rose to the rank of "head of global immigration" while working in the company's Plano office. He was terminated in June, 2016, ostensibly for violating Infosys' "code of conduct by using his work computer for personal use a number of years earlier."

The race-based discrimination lawsuit by a former American employee comes just weeks after the Indian technology services company announced plans to hire 10,000 American workers at a time when President Trump has been pushing an "America First" policy.

snip...

"Infosys maintains roughly 200,000 employees working in the US," Green's suit said. While < 5% of US population is of the South Asian race and national origin, roughly 93%-94% percent of Infosys's US workforce "is of the South Asian national origin, (primarily Indian)."

"This disproportionately South Asian and Indian workforce, by race and national origin, is result of Infosys's intentional employment discrimination against individuals who are not South Asian, including discrimination in the hiring, promotion, compensation and termination of individuals," the suit said.

"Infosys has gone to great lengths to obtain its primarily South Asian workforce in the US, in particular by utilizing professional H-1B and L-1 visas to bring South Asians (primarily Indians) into the United States to work in information technology ("IT") consulting roles," according to the suit.

Relatively short interesting article, interesting comments at bottom of article.

Noted that 4 years ago they paid a $34 million settlement to end a federal investigation into allegations that it circumvented immigration laws to bring thousands of lower-paid workers into the United States. Cheap payoff IMHO!

Hey hey, ho ho, INFOSYS HAS GOT TO GO!!!

They always have. My experience as a consultant years ago was they would interview Americans, then pick the Indian H1B. The result obvious. They are not the only Indian supplying company to play this game. Shame on the American companies that hire staff through them.

They have really taken down IT career and wage growth. Years ago, a student could write their own ticket with IT skills. Not the case today.

The problem really begins before the H-1B Visa stage of the immigration pipeline. There are NO LIMITS ON THE NUMBER OF STUDENT VISAS that can be issued, and there are programs for recent foreign student grads that give them an edge in being hiring by US companies...Because there are so many students recruited from China, University of Illinois is casually referred to as University of China at Illinois...

Often the IT companies claim there are not US workers who can fill the jobs...Of course what they really mean is US workers who will work for a pittance.

IMHO If we don’t have US students who can fill IT openings, then we need to look at our K-12 education system as to why they are not educating students who can go on to obtain competitive degrees. students.

The whole immigration pipeline needs to be overhauled!!

“head of global immigration” while working in the company’s Plano office”

Humm wondering if the reporter botched this and should have read “intergration”?

I had an interview with these guys more than 3 years ago, didn’t get hired.

I was qualified for the job but almost the entire interview was about how I didn’t want the job even though I did.

I thought at the time it was a big waste of my time.

Reading this, it made me think the whole point of the interview was to just provide them with evidence they couldn’t find an american to fill the position.

As anyone who has worked in IT for long enough to know, once you have an Indian boss, no more Americans will be hired, and any remaining Americans will be pushed out through various methods.

I’ve seen in academic science & engineering departments also.

In the third world you get a good job with hiring authority you hire family, clan, tribe, nationality in that order. They see nothing wrong with it, you’re sharing your good fortune. Its moral and “family values” to them often they are baffled as to why anyone would object.

Of course to dimwitted American HR departments & the swamp of ‘ever-growing-in-numbers-professional-grievous-lawyers’ you’re a bigot and a target.
