So much for the Democrats’ ‘resistance’ movement
The Boston Globe ^ | June 21, 2017 | By Eric Fehrnstrom

I think I know the exact moment “the resistance” came to a crushing end. No, it wasn’t Tuesday night’s loss in Georgia’s congressional race, when Democrat Jon Ossoff — described as a “near ideal candidate” — was steamrolled by Karen Handel, a frumpy, charisma-less Republican running in a district where President Trump barely squeaked out a win in 2016.

And no, it wasn’t when Bernie Sanders, the leader-in-exile of “the resistance,” attacked a nameless bureaucrat at a Senate confirmation hearing for believing as a Christian that eternal salvation can only be obtained through Jesus Christ.

It happened the day Hillary Clinton declared herself “part of the resistance.” That was the moment the whole movement died, in parody of itself, as the presidential candidate who lost the election fair and square tried to position herself as a leader in the effort to delegitimize the winner.

And what a spectacular failure it has proved itself to be.

A new strategy for Democrats should not only lay out a positive vision for the future, it must also distance them from the failed leadership of the past and generate the potential to attract crossover votes from moderate Republicans and GOP-leaning independents who have never been fans of Trump.

Much has been made about Trump’s sliding poll numbers, as if this foretells his doom. It is worth bearing in mind that on the day he was elected president, Trump’s favorable rating was 38 percent. Winning is going to require more of Democrats than blind opposition.

The resistance never was more than a bunch of anarchists and Trump haters.

They don’t understand that the revolution and real resistance happened last November.

Yeah, your "resistance" was already a two-time failed candidate, just who you'd want as a "leader".

“They don’t understand that the revolution and real resistance happened last November.”

So in other words: Their Resistance is futile.

But they can’t accept that Barack Insane Obama was failed leadership. To them, that would be racist. So they’re in a mental Catch 22.

I know many a Bernie voter certainly thought so. The ease with which she made this co-option was a tipoff as to just how contrived and shallow the whole thing is. Establishment candidate, establishment media, establishment party - "We're losers but we're your leaders." Best of luck with that.

Oh, and “the resistance”? Trump’s opponents need a new approach besides pretending they are living in German-occupied France.

The adolescent wing of the Dem party has always pictured itself as consisting of revolutionary heroes swimming in a sea of intolerable oppression. That one's sell-by date is forty years past and it was stupid to begin with.

Assuming the Resistance has fizzled out, and that’s not yet obvious, I would mark the end as the moment that gunman started firing at the GOP congressmen.

That’s the moment when all the hating took on real meaning and spewed words became action. The first sign that it was all over was when the verdict on the Castile case came in not guilty and the Twin Cities suffered only a mild protest lasting one evening.

A similar thing happened in August of 1970 when activists bombed Sterling Hall in Madison WI in the middle of the night and killed a researcher who happened to be working all night. That essentially marked the end of campus riots of the late 60’s.

When people start to die as a result of instigating, the instigators tend to go mute, finding a better way to occupy their time.

Kent State redux, sort of. A major turning point in public opinion. At some point, the Dems are going to realize that everything they do and say is losing votes, and when they run out of external donor money to spend on Georgia-6 special elections it will only get worse.

Now all we need is for the Democrat moderates to realize that organizations like #BLM, Pu$$ie$ on Parade and the Fascists claiming to be against Fascism are dragging them down and they have to destroy the movements.

The Dims will keep trying, but their Russian nonsense is falling by the wayside. Meanwhile, as they base their entire existence on destroying Trump, he’s out doing exactly what the American people want: creating an environment that’s friendly to job growth, combating terrorism, stopping the flow of illegals, etc.

As it stands now, if the 2018 race was held tomorrow, the Dims would get steamrolled.

Change one word and we’ve got a great bumper sticker:

Sure it’s dead,I still only see Republicans being investigated,Hillary walking around the woods with top secret clearance,Who knows who Bill is doing lately instead of what he’s doing to undermine the country, the likes of Holder, who should be in prison,is thinking of running for President, along with the lunatic Biden, the Congress led by Ryan,McConnell making sure Trump can’t repeal Obama care or get any income tax reform.
Seems to me nothing has changed. Except the bluster

>>Kent State redux, sort of. A major turning point in public opinion.<<

Not exactly. Kent State was more of an initiating event that led to even more campus demonstrations, similar to the Trayvon Martin episode that got Obama fired up, after which he fired up the Resistance. The Sterling Hall shooting marked an end to it all, and I’m hoping the same is true of the ballpark shooting, i.e., that people supporting it come to their senses that protesting has gone too far.
