Leonardo DiCaprio has reportedly handed over to the federal government an Oscar, originally won by Marlon Brando, that was gifted to him by Red Granite Pictures, a production company that is allegedly involved with a massive Malaysian embezzlement scheme.
According to Deadline Hollywood, an asset seizure request was filed against Red Granite on Thursday by the Department of Justice. Red Granite, a film production company that has worked on movies such as The Wolf Of Wall Street, has been accused of using millions of stolen dollars to pay for its films.
The money was allegedly taken from a fund that was intended to help the people of Malaysia.
In August 2016, The Hollywood Reporter reported on the link between Leonardo DiCaprio, his environmental foundation, and 1MDB, the Malaysian fund at the center of the embezzlement scandal.
The DOJ alleges that Jho Low, a Malaysian businessman and 1MDB advisor, was the funneled millions of dollars from the fund into the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which was also used to purchase artwork that the actor sold via auction at his annual charity gala.
The DOJ also alleges that hundreds of millions of dollars went to Red Granite Pictures to fund its productions. This would include The Wolf Of Wall Street, in which DiCaprio starred.
Red Granite also gave DiCaprio the Oscar, won by Marlon Brando for his role in the film On the Waterfront, for his work in The Wolf Of Wall Street.
More than $3 billion has been reported as stolen from the Malaysian fund, meaning this could be the largest embezzlement scheme in history.
Representatives for DiCaprio have said he reached out to the DOJ last year to cooperate with the investigation. He also inquired as to whether he needed to return any ill-gotten gifts or donations.

He’s lawyered up.
LMAO!!!
Reotardo DeCraprio? El Jokeo...
Another crooked environmental rip-off. Al Gore should be next. Then all the Obama cronies who scammed the US taxpayers for eight years.
He’s not bright enough to think of the gimmicks involved and the amount of money-laundering. I would imagine that by the time that the gov’t folks get finished....about 75-percent of DiCaprio’s wealth will be taken. You will see a lot less of him running around on a private jet and talking carbon stuff.
Yawn.

... only if you don’t count heads-of-state... You don’t think Castro, Chavez or Mugabe hasn’t siphoned off that much, or more?
Small potatoes compared to the "Clinton Foundation",
"ObamaCare",
the GM Bailout,
the banks bailout
or the subprime mortgage scam.
cant be worth much
DiCaprio must have had an inkling this was coming to the fore, when he signed Appian Way to a first-look with the ever-struggling Paramount last year.
One wonders, conversely, if the 1MBD scandal scuttled Paramount's Wanda Group 49% deal last year; resulting in a less-desirable minority sale to Shanghai this year mostly for China market access.
1MDB Drama Puts Golfing Buddies Obama and Najib in a Tight Spot
1mdb is indeedy a big deal. Hence the need for the obfuscation.
Little holier than thou green boy is nothing but a damn crook.
Geesh, these lefties have no decency at all.
Hmm...that Oscar must be hexed. Even Brando refused to accept it.
I don’t even remember the issue from almost a year ago. Must not have been very big, or was ignored by msm.
If you’ve never seen Eminem’s cartoon show, Reotardo got his ass whipped in one episode and it was hilarious!
The story is actually NOT about Di Caprio, who has cooperated fully with the authorities. He was merely the recipient of gifts from the folks who are actually under investigation. He is far from the only Hollywood personality caught up in actions of the production company whose sources of capital appear to include fraud.
We can only laugh at the obvious Hollywood hypocrisy with the producers of Wolf of Wall Street - designed to paint all of Wall Street as bunch of fraudsters - being investigated themselves for being part of a massive fraud.
LOL! I love it!!
