Weve spent a fair amount of time over the past several years writing about the participation trophy generation (a.k.a. millennials) and, more specifically, how their inflated sense of entitlement and self-worth, irrespective of work effort and/or innate talent, would not serve them well in the real world.
You see millennials, despite what your enabling handlers (a.k.a. educators) have told you your whole life, people here in the real world couldnt care any less about your feelings, think your Gender Studies degree was a complete waste of your parents money, will not promote you just because anything less would be a triggering event and do not recognize your standing to demand safe spaces.
In fact, taking a moment to truly internalize the following quote from our favorite movie would serve you well.
Listen up maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. Youre the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We are the all singing, all dancing crap of the world. We are all part of the same compost heap.
And, while weve been forced to write post after post detailing the lunacy of your behavior as you frolic aimlessly on the campuses of liberal bastions of higher indoctrination across this great country, growing more and more sickened with each new display of entitlement, we have to say that your efforts to eliminate high school rankings is a new low, even for you.
Unfortunately, as the AP points out today, that is exactly what seems to be happening at high schools all around the country as the title of valedictorian is being eliminated and/or bestowed upon so many kids in each graduating class that its rendered meaningless.
More and more schools are moving toward a more holistic process.... .

The number of failing Black kids was an embarrassment to the Black community.
(So....just fake it!)
Snowflakes.
...High Schools Drop Valedictorian Distinction Fearing Lower-Ranked Kids May Feel Triggered...
To start shooting like the ball park Democrat did?
San Antonio is one of many districts in South Texas that has been letting failed students “walk the stage” for years. They receive the cheers of their families for achieving nothing. Pitiful.
The only thing that can bar a student from the ceremony is excessive absences, because the school district loses state money for every day a student is absent. Follow the money, as usual.
Yeah... because hard work and learning to be happy for others are terrible things to learn (rolling eyes).
Maybe they’ll be triggered to try harder.
This is probably more attributable to a phenomenon where parents have started suing school districts and teachers over grades. They are determined to get scholarships and entrance to good schools for their kids, and sue over anything that may impede that.
That is sad; they got to “play graduate” for a day.
Nowadays they’d just give them the real diploma. One unintended consequence of this mentality is that I view ANY credentials or work experience differently for “preferred minorities” (blacks, Hispanics, women) than I do those of white and Asian men.
“Snowflakes” are just the most recent manifestation of kid-glove treatment extended to others for decades...
Pathetic future
So who will give the “entering the real world” speech at graduation, the class dope dealer, or some of the drunken male and female whores?
I still remember the press conference held by the doctors who performed BillBob's heart surgery (years ago). There were,IIRC,almost a dozen people at that table and I don't recall seeing a single one who wasn't white and male.
But then one or two might have been transgendered....
They shouldn’t drop it. They should draw straws for it. Then po’ peoples could be valedictorians, too.
I say they should give valedictorian to the boy with the prettiest dress.
Driving achievement underground until there are no more role models to aspire to. Recipe for a failing society.
My son’s private high school doesn’t even give a class rank anymore. I suspect because everyone is getting really good grades. My son is an average at best student and has all As.
What a joke. I’m so glad my younger son is homeschooled (I homeschooled the older through 5th grade and then it just wasn’t working anymore. Wish it did as I could do a better job than his $$$ school is.)
When does an end come to this non-sense? How long can these experiments go on before a total breakdown in society occurs?
How dare you say there’s such a thing as failing! Many schools have done away with failing grades. No one gets a D or F as it might hurt their widdle feelers. So, why try at all? If you don’t learn failure as a kid, you’re going to get it slapped against your face throughout adulthood. If you don’t learn the satisfaction of success as a kid, you’re going be a failure as an adult. But, hey, lets give everyone a participation ribbon. It’s the same mentality as paying burger flippers $15/hr.
Texas state universities give valedictorians and salutatorians free tuition. Guess this gets the universities off the hook for that money.
Yep, very true. If there’s no desire to achieve, or role models, or the realization that setting goals and achieving success takes lots of hard work, then what will society look like??
Sometimes I fear for the future of our culture and society, based on this very idea, that we as a society are abandoning values which helped create a great stable society. A couple of generations down the road, we may not recognize this country. This political statement of abandoning a valedictorian status because someone’s feelings will be hurt, is a symptom of that.
School supposedly is in part preparing children for the world when they become adults. In many ways, more than can be listed on this thread, they are failing.
San Antonio = failed illegals get to walk across border and the stage.
