No one becomes a general via the A-10. That’s the problem in a nutshell.
This has gone on too long. If the air force can’t be bothered to give us CAS give us the planes and we’ll train some warrant officers to fly them.
There was a service member from a drone “squadron” wearing a flight suit behind me in line at the grocery store yesterday here in Florida. I could not believe his girth. Not exactly the sharp end of the force there. LOL. We really need these A-10s, IMO.
Air Force would rather have three aircraft that could do the job of one A-10.
A B-1b flying at 50,000 ft can do more damage with precision weapons...to precise targets on the ground...than a squadron of A-10’s.
Armor, vehicles, reinforced emplacements...none out of reach for destruction. Especially when using CBUs.

I believe sometime around the 1980s, the Air Force did offer the CAS mission and the A10s to the Army. Army declined.
They’ve been trying to kill the A-10 since it was in development. It was supposed to cut a lot more than that this year, until they didn’t. I’ll believe they’re cutting the A-10 when they actually start getting moved next door.

...let's replace the " two senior Air Force officials " with some less-senior-however-more-practical-and-mission-connected Air Force officials.
Unless someone is getting kickbacks from manufacturers of new aircraft, I cannot imagine why the USAF hates and for many years has hated the A-10. It is 40 y/o, but it is still a great aircraft that gets the job done far better than anything designed in the decades since then.

Pilots are just too valuable.
They are so valuable that they should never have to be in danger to enemy forces.
In order to protect our pilots, we must use drones for all combat and reconnaissance missions.
The Army should control those drones as their Soldiers are not as valuable as pilots.
