U.S. immigration authorities have arrested and moved to deport 199 Iraqi immigrants, mostly from the Detroit area, in the last three weeks after Iraq agreed to accept deportees as part of a deal removing it from President Donald Trump’s travel ban, officials said on Wednesday.
In the Detroit area, 114 Iraqi nationals were arrested over the weekend, and 85 throughout the rest of the country over the past several weeks, Gillian Christensen, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman, said in a statement.
The actions came as part of the Trump administration’s push to increase immigration enforcement and make countries, which have resisted in the past, take back nationals ordered deported from the United States.
The crackdown on Iraqi immigrants followed the U.S. government’s decision to drop Iraq from a list of Muslim-majority nations targeted by a revised version of Trump’s temporary travel ban issued in March.

Dozens of Iraqi Christians and other immigrants were seized over the weekend in a series of ICE raids, many of which took place in Michigan, a state known for its large Middle Eastern population. Those arrested face risk of deportation back to their home countries, some of which Trump had previously criticized as being hostile toward Christians.
Many of the detained are facing years-old charges and some having not committed any crimes in the past two or three decades, CNN reported. Activists such as Steve Oshana, an Assyrian-Christian who is executive director of A Demand for Action, a non-profit that assists at-risk religious and ethnic communities in the Middle East, have attacked Trump for allowing authorities to send Christians back to places like Iraq, where the U.S. has said a “genocide” against the faith was occurring.

I really feel bad about the Christian Chaldeans being rounded up. It is a death sentence to be sent back to Iraq. Chaldeans lived in Iraq for 2,000 years. Then their churches were destroyed and genocide by ISIS.

Someone on radio program from Michigan said they wonder if this isn’t strategy before SC case to prove not just targeting Muslims.
I don’t believe ICE is immoral or “out of control” if that is what you mean. If those rounded up are all here legally and haven’t violated conditions of their visa, then I think they ultimately will not be deported. Deporting those otherwise will help to prevent this kind of thing happening in the first place. There should not be personal discretion of abiding or not our immigration laws.
Definitely the Deep State on the move to undermine Trump. How is it with the hundreds of thousands from Muslim countries in the Detroit area, that they target hundreds of the less than 1% Christians - rather than vast majority Muslims (many who are Jihadis)?
