LAHORE, Pakistan — A Pakistani counter-terrorism court has sentenced to death a man who allegedly committed blasphemy on Facebook, a government prosecutor said on Sunday — the first time someone has been handed the death penalty for insulting the Prophet Mohammad on social media.
The conviction of Taimoor Raza, 30, follows a high-profile crackdown against blasphemy on social media by the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Blasphemy is a highly sensitive topic in Muslim-majority Pakistan, where insulting the Prophet Mohammad is a capital crime for which dozens are sitting on death row. Even mere accusations are enough to spark mass uproar and mob justice.
Shafiq Qureshi, public prosecutor in Bahawalpur, about 300 miles south of provincial capital Lahore, said Raza was convicted for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad, his wives and companions.

The Paks I know in the US are honest, hardworking people (with the possible exception of Little Debbie’s Cookies Wasserman’s IT groups of suspected crooks and spies).
Parts of Pakistan, like those in Afghanistan and other surrounding mountainous countries (all Islamic) are living examples of what the 12th Century was like. I would just a readily nuke the Pustan/Baluchi/Taliban areas as readily as I would kill a Zika mosquito.
However, since that isn’t going to happen, I would hope that the Pakistani government would go in and clean out these areas once and for all. Use whatever weapons they need to get the job done. Then kill a bunch of Islamic extremist clerics just to get the point across that “tolerance” is a real living concept and those who don’t practice it will be killed.
What the f*ck am I smoking? That part of the world should be obliterated ASAP because I see no hope for any real religious/cultural or military reform in this century and I’m too damned old to wait to see if it happens in the next.
