A Vero Beach High School student running for senior class president was disqualified from the race and received detention after delivering an impromptu, 90-second satirical speech that his principal didn't find funny. JP Krause was running for senior class president back in April and was in class when his peers started chanting "speech, speech!" and his teacher gave him the opportunity to speak, Krause told NBC affiliate WPTV. While referring to his opponent in the election, Krause joked, "She will expand the government so you will not be able to do anything" and "she will raise taxes 80 percent."

at my daughter’s HS the kids are campaigning for student council...one kid has signs all over the place which read; “VOTE TOM- MAKE KENNEDY GREAT!!” kennedy is the name of the school...
Satire in the classroom, OH NO!!
Sounds like the Principal needs to be taught a lesson in freedom in America. Since everything is war now, let the lawfare begin.
A good lesson in totalitarianism. If the left could have annulled Trump’s election, they would have. (They’re still trying to.)
ROFL I love it! Political improv, supposedly off-the-cuff, no wonder why his classmates chose him. Someone should take the stick out of the principal's, uh, posterior.
Publik Skoooolz, pure crap.
Satire is good. Satire at the expense of another student, not so good.
He needs a good beating with a stick.
If he had said “I will make all toilets unisex” he would have gotten an award.
Just why would the school administration and the students think that such relatively mild satire was off limits in a high school election? Elections are contests between candidates and cannot be restricted to uplifting happy talk.
Kid has good grounds to sue.
Lawfare. Why does that put a grin on my face?
Satire is good. Satire at the expense of another student, not so good.

Oh BULLS*IT!! How was this “at the expense” of anyone? Find me ONE personal attack made by this kid against his opponent.
What the hell are you, some kind of a snowflake? Get the hell off the forum and go to the DU where you belong!
Fire the principal and hire that kid!
there is nothing wrong with his speech, totally innocuous
Saying your opponent is going to raise taxes and institute a dress code is pretty mild fun to me. This in no way seems to be at the expense of another student. It was an election, a contest with a winner and a loser and he was creative and funny in this clip. If the school basketball team wins a game should they give the victory back because it was at the expense of the other kids? This to me sounds like it’s another example of “because it had some reference to Trump”, it’s wrong syndrome.

“While referring to his opponent in the election...”
> What the hell are you, some kind of a snowflake? <
Sorry, I won’t trade insults. That’s actually more of a DU thing. But note that this was school election, not a “real” election. Satire directed against another student is not something I find admirable. YMMV.
Krause won the vote the next day, but Shawn OKeefe, the school principal, wrote in a letter that the speech “created a situation of public humiliation,” according to WPTV.
