Theres something odd about the explanation The New York Times offered for standing by a blockbuster report that former FBI Director James Comey characterized as almost entirely wrong in testimony before Congress Thursday.
Would it be fair to characterize that story as almost entirely wrong? Republican Sen. Tom Cotton asked Comey during the hearing. Yes, Comey replied. And at another point in the hearing he said of the report, in the main it was not true.
The paper of record reported Feb. 14 that U.S. intelligence officials had intercepted repeated communications between the Trump campaign and senior Russian intelligence officials in the year leading up to the election, based on accounts from four former and current U.S. officials. The news firmly planted the as yet totally unsubstantiated narrative that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to sway the election in his favor.
Despite Comeys strongly worded statements, TheNYT announced Friday it had completed a review of the facts and would stand by the report in its entirety. The three reporters behind the story offered a dubiously reasoned explanation as to why in a separate piece that includes an odd admission about the review process no one was able to get in touch with the original sources.
The original sources could not immediately be reached after Mr. Comeys remarks, but in the months since the article was published, they have indicated that they believed the account was solid, the reporters wrote.

“no one was able to get in touch with the original sources.”
Hmmm, I wonder why?
Who believes Comey OR the New York Times?
The real big story here is that there is nothing to report.

Hillary was sleeping and missed the call?
Hmmm, I wonder why?
Dan Rather set the course for the entire MSM.
NYT is totally inadequate.
Actually, they’re traitors n the truest sense of the word.
Someone should start using anonymous sources and target these reporters for selacius acts against minors...
The Bible speaks of people being “willingly ignorant” of certain truths. They don’t know because they DON’T WANT to know. It’s been sticking in my craw for over a year; the BS that supposed reporters keep throwing around. For the longest time we heard the scandalous news that a fax machine in Trump Tower was in constant contact with Russian banks. Would it be a clue, if you knew that one of Trump’s tenants in TT is a large Chinese Bank? And is it possible that the fax machine in that bank communicates with Russian banks at least once a day? Those mendacious scum reporters better thank God that I don’the rule the world.
This is not truthful news; it is hearsay, gossip, in its truest form. The NY Slime has abdicated its position as a news source; it has become a mouthpiece for the leftist rat party.
in other words, the ‘original sources’ were made up
I think you give them too much credit; it's not even gossip.
They just pulled it out of their butt. It's made up, 100% fabricated.
It's got no more factual content than the plot of Ghostbusters. The giant Pillsbury Doughboy was more rooted in reality.
That’s one heck of a bubble the NYT lives in!
I stand corrected.
You stand condemned sir!
(that was my father's automatic response anytime I said "I stand corrected")
“The Bible speaks of people being willingly ignorant of certain truths”
It also speaks very clearly about “bearing false witness.”
This is what todays msm is doing.
Being purveyors of #FAKENEWS, they lie about people.
By bearing false witness; they are BREAKING one of the Ten Commandments. Wow.
The New York Times needs to pay for what they’ve done.
Dueling fake stories.
A unicorn hacked the election
No. It was a Klingon
Taking an oath or telling the truth is meaningless to them. Im not even sure they can distinguish fantasy from reality
