An attorney representing the citizen who tipped off Minneapolis police to two men with an SUV containing a cache of weapons and bomb making materials, according to police, is now criticizing local leaders for how the case is being handled.
"They had guns, they had ammo, they had a grenade," attorney Joe Tamburino said. "Where is the mayor? Where are the county commissioners? We need to be talking about this. This was a dangerous situation."
KSTP previously spoke with the man who called police to the scene. He asked his identity not be revealed. He said he walked by a parked SUV near the intersection of North 44th Avenue and Humboldt Avenue North the evening of May 11 when he said he saw someone throw food wrappers out of a vehicle window onto the ground.
He said the two men in the car started fighting with him after he asked them to clean up the trash. The man said he called 911 after the men got out of the car and indicated they had guns.
"It caused me to be on alert," he said. "What's really going on here?"
Court documents reveal the responding officers found a hand grenade, handgun, assault rifles, magazines and a large quantity of ammunition inside the SUV. The documents also indicate officers found cellphones, computers and electronics equipment, including drone parts, which the bomb squad determined could be used to build a bomb.
Abdullah N. Al Rifahe, 27, is facing a felony charge for carrying a pistol in public without a permit. In December, he was convicted of the same offense. He remains behind bars. The other man in the SUV, Majid Al Rifahe, 26, is charged with assault and disorderly conduct. He has been released from jail.
"But for my client coming upon them who knows what these guys would have done," Tamburino said.
Tamburino said Majid Al Rifahe later returned to the same area and made a threatening gesture toward his client. Tamburino is now in the process of filing restraining orders against both suspects. Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed the agency is aware of the arrests, but can't comment on the presence of an investigation. Minneapolis police would not comment beyond saying it's investigation remains open.
Tamburino said he doesn't understand why the case isn't getting more attention from local officials.
"I want a statement from our public officials," Tamburino said. "Could you imagine if this happened in New York City? Mayor de Blasio would be front and center saying here's what happened we need to put a stop to this," he said.
Joe is right. Ever since this story broke, local government and law enforcement have been observing radio silence.
Minnesota has a huge muslim problem and they are scared spitless.
Simple: force them to convert to christianity, exile, or die.
Sounds like Somali nationals, er, immigrants.
Seems like islamist facilitation to me.
It is.
Had they been white Christians this would have been headlines on all the MSM sites.
And the one that was released would not have been.
Yep, imagine the reaction if the situation was identical except the brothers’ last name was McVeigh. Same pertinent facts, but one detail changed.
The Minneapolis mayor is a big muzzie terrorist lover. Nothing to see here, move on.
The Minneapolis mayor is a big muzzie terrorist lover. Nothing to see here, move on.
That is the only rational treatment of the problem.
Perhaps "Joe" should consider that perhaps the local authorities have passed this on to Homeland Security, whose jurisdiction it is, and are the local authorities were told to maintain silence due to ongoing investigation. That is what "I" would expect to happen. The locals have done all they need or should do.
Notice how very careful they are to say “he said” in order to diminish the claim of wrongdoing.
When white people are accused of doing something wrong, it’s presented as a fact with absolutely no proof. (Example: “Trump obstructed justice.” Not, “according to X (insert name of rabid leftist here), Trump obstructed justice.” )
Conversion of Muslims is almost always a waste of time, unless they come looking for the conversion. Muslims are allowed to lie to non-Muslims. Therefore whatever a Muslims says is unreliable.
