GA Congressional Race: Debate Moderator Fact Checks Ossoff; Newspapers Avoid
NewsBusters ^ | June 9, 2017 | P.J. Gladnick

Imagine if a candidate during a debate makes a statement so outright erroneous that the debate moderator takes time to fact check him with the truth. A very notable moment you might say. Well, not according to a couple of liberal newspapers, including a local one, who again acted as information cloaking devices by not mentioning the debate moderator correction.

This was the case in the June 8 debate between Karen Handel and Jon Ossoff, candidates in the Georgia 6th Congressional District special election to be held on June 20. Ossoff told such a big whopper that the debate moderator had to intercede as you can see below.

Another huge lie Ossoff told was that he has gotten more contributions from Georgia than has Handel. In fact, 95% of Ossoff’s money is from out of state, primarily California, NY and Mass. If he won’t tell the truth before an election, how can anyone expect him to be truthful afterwards?

I hope Georgians in the 6th District wake up to the fact that Ossoff is bought and paid for by out of state rich people.

This whole Ossoff campaign is an example of the fundamental insanity at the heart of current Democrat Party politics.

So, imagine if after spending $10 million Ossoff wins a special election. So what?

It is not a seat Democrats will hold once Ossoff can no longer lie about who he is and has to go to DC and actually DO things. There isn’t going to be another $10 million to waste on Ossoff in a normal election year with candidate running all over the country. Even if they lie him into office now, Dems going to lose this seat in Nov 2018. And by wasting all this money on Ossoff, they not going to have this $10 million to be used in races they actually might flip seats.

Pretty freaking stupid to be wasting this sort of money on a seat you cannot hold to win an election that will be utterly meaninglessly to anyone outside the DNC propaganda machine.

Pundits will go into hysterics about the result for about a day and then it will be utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of politics.

This is just about the stupidest political play the Democrats have ever pulled. Spending $10 million to win a seat you cannot hope to hold for meaningless PR rather then using it where it can actually make a long term difference is just moronic.

What hasn’t been reported is how much the dems spent to raise that money. I’ve seen ads running here in Washington state begging folks to send money to Ossoff.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that Osoff is just doing a bad imitation of Obama? The cadence is the same, the way he moves and gestures, the superiority. It all feels a bit too familiar to me.

Shouldn’t debate moderators refrain from “fact-checking” debaters? How is this different from Candy v. Romney — except for the sides being reversed? Let the candidates call each other out, where warranted. That’s part of a debate.

If he won’t tell the truth before an election, how can anyone expect him to be truthful afterwards?

That's a silly question.

Since when did democrats care about the truth?

More importantly, to the democrats who are contributing to Ossof's campaign, it's about getting him elected to prove that the democratic party is not dying, and to them, it's also about winning a seat in congress to make it easier in the next election to gain the majority, and with the majority, they get to stop Trump and republicans from undoing the democrats' many social programs and regulations, plus they'd get to set the agenda in congress.

Basically, they're looking for one seat at a time and to stop the bleeding. They can then claim that republicans are on the way out; never mind that it would be just one seat that they gained. The big goal for democrats is to use that win to claim that the people spoke and want the republican and Trump agendas stopped.

We live in the Atlanta tv market area and tv here is absolutely saturated with campaign ads, even to the point of back to back ads for the same candidate from different groups. We are so sick of them that we want to scream. Imagine living in the district where they are swamped with phone calls, flyers, mail and people at their front door all day long. Its awful!
