Coal just wants to compete in the marketplace without the heavy hand of Federal central planning dictating industry winners and losers. If natural gas and/or other energy sources squeeze out Coal and render it uncompetitive due to free market forces, then so be it.

Fake news. The coal mining industry has added only 500 jobs since November, increasing from 50,100 to 50,600. Mining and logging jobs have increased from 666,000 to 706,000, but at was largely due to growth in support activities for mining, essentially oilfield services.
