What Hitchens and his ilk fail to ever consider is that active criminals are ALWAYS armed in some manner, because CRIMINALS IGNORE THE LAW. The criminals will smuggle them off army bases, out of police armories, or simply add them to the cargos of drugs that are smuggled in.

The NRA collected donated American rifles that were sent to Britain to arm the Home Guard.

Not sure if we ever got them back.

Nearly all were dumped in the ocean rather than return them to the United States.

At least one was returned because the owner had a brass plate made with his name and address and instructions to return it, and had it screwed to the stock.
