Peter Hitchens on freedom vs. gun control (UK citizens could own guns before 1920)

(Peter Hitchens at :29)....no they can't shoot me because they've been disarmed by the state.

A couple of interesting points that people need to consider until the year 1920, Steven touched upon, the gun laws of this country made Texas look effeminate.

There was complete freedom in this country to own and buy guns to such an extent that the unarmed police at one major incident in London where they had to deal with a foreign anarchist gang in 1909 borrowed guns from passers by to shoot them.....

(at 2:43)...At one point in our history citizens were actually required to have arms to help defend, to help defend the law against the lawbreakers.......

Peter Hitchens explains in this video what the UK was like before private ownership of guns was outlawed in 1920.

People had guns to deal with threats and the police didn't have guns and needed the people to help them.

Now the UK has the militarized police, murderous criminals and terrorists and the unarmed civilian population as lambs to the slaughter.

Then, with Churchill:

Now after 7 decades of Brit PC bs and disarming the good Brits, this is the new rule!

This sums up why our second amendment is probably our most important amendment!

I think the Bolshevik revolution scared the dickens out of the British upper crust.

They passed the gun control laws to keep the peasants under control.

This is a short but very good video.

I think that the main reason for British firearm regulations in 1920 was due to the threat of Communism and Socialism that was running rampant through the continent.

Even in the USA there was a major uprising in the coalfields. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blair_Mountain

The Battle of Blair Mountain is a very interesting study involving citizens on both sides arming themselves and going forth to fight.

Run, hide, shiver, be a pussy, whimper...

This is your first response for you.

The killing could have been limited to very few people, if some of those people had been armed and trained.

Britain's leaders are idiots.

The police cannot respond fast enough. Get over it.

The UK government should face work every day with the certain knowledge that they have a good chance of getting a pitch fork in the back.

What happens when the citizenry is disarmed. Just one person with a gun could have stopped the carnage; not even the cops had guns, they were locked up at the cop shop and had to have special authorization to get them or call out the special cops who are allowed to have guns. Disgusting.

Many people aren't aware that because Britain was disarmed, they were desperately short of small arms for home defense when the Germans threatened to invade in 1940.

The NRA collected donated American rifles that were sent to Britain to arm the Home Guard.

Not sure if we ever got them back.

Some one wrote an excellent essay I read 20 or so years ago about the English king, when the threat was France , archery skill was extolled and familiarity required. When the threat was the “peasants” owning a bow was a capital crime...

They sent back a few and destroyed the rest. Next time, I ain't agonna send any of mine over.

I recall an NRA Rifleman article some years ago saying that a large number of these rifles weren’t returned. Can’t recall the specifics.

Most of ‘em were dumped in the ocean shortly before the end of the war, when it was clear they wouldn’t be needed.

The English Bill of Rights, 1689, recognized the Right to Bear Arms.
I guess in 1920 they just ignored that.
