Conservatism is ultimately rooted in Christianity and liberalism in humanism. Or at least liberalism resonates with humanists and conservatism resonates with people of faith. I am not so optimistic.
My thoughts on this article fall somewhere between wishful thinking and cautious optimism. Yes, American conservatism is rooted in a Judeo-Christian worldview, but in a broader sense, I would be happy in the short term for an emphasis on a more generic sense of natural law and moral objectivity. The left is dependendent on the inculcation of moral relativism and situational ethics, such that in their world, dairy farming is a horrid atrocity yet abortion on demand is a sacred right. Until there is a resurgence of more traditional values in the day-to-day lives of Americans, there will not be any solid conservative comeback.
Optimistic about the political future?! Me neither. The massive influx of immigrants will be voting for lots of government benefits. So will their children. And those kids will be growing up to have lots of children. It is the upper middle class that has fewer kids. The government rewards the lower class parents with lots of benefits for lots of children. The immigrants and their children’s children will flood the USA with government dependent democrats. The 3rd world population bomb will send zillions of new immigrants to the USA. And if the illegal parents do not vote, rest assured the children will vote democrat.
“liberalism in humanism.”
There is nothing rational or scientific about the present progressive movement.
The vast majority of Americans believe in God even if they don’t go to church like they used to. Most were raised with Christian values and morals, even if they have wandered of late. As Americans age, they return to their childhood faith, values and morals.
Atheists are a very small percentage of Americans and won’t grow much and may contract. Muslims...who knows.
Actually, liberalism is rooted in authoritarian and criminal forms of governing, often murdering millions of people who resist. Humanism is the cover word, a lie used in circles of high powered criminal rulers. Christianity brought worth and freedom to the individual.
Rverything is cycles.
But just listen to recent top 100 song lyrics. Many -—certainly not all—reflect a MUCH different (and not negative) tone.
I have a piece in BigLeaguePolitics about this
There is a racial/ethnic aspect to it as well. Whites are overwhelmingly conservative. Blacks and other brown immigrants are overwhelmingly liberal, despite being religious.
The good news is that white liberals are dying off quickly. They aren’t marrying and they aren’t having kids. White liberal birthrates are well below replacement levels, while white conservative birthrates are among the highest in the industrialized world.
We will defeat them with the wombs of our women!
Ill hold on to hope but I won’t be holding my breath. I think the upcoming and controlling generations are, well ill let that stay unwritten here.
“Conservatism is ultimately rooted in Christianity and liberalism in humanism. Or at least liberalism resonates with humanists and conservatism resonates with people of faith. I am not so optimistic.”
Truthfully and eloquently stated, and much more discerning than the usual emotionalism vs. rationalism distinction. In fact, rationalism often precludes religious faith based motivation, so it isn’t a good way to characterize conservatives at all.
