Russian President Vladimir Putin said the West should stop inventing "fictional threats" from Russia and instead focus on defeating terrorism together.

"We need to think about what we want from the future. I think we all want security, peace, safety and cooperation," Putin told France's Le Figaro Wednesday. "Therefore, we should not build up tensions or invent fictional threats from Russia, some hybrid warfare etc."

"What is the major security problem today? Terrorism. There are bombings in Europe, in Paris, in Russia, in Belgium. There is a war in the Middle East. This is the main concern. But no, let us keep speculating on the threat from Russia," he said.

I am leery of him too, but I do think he’s a realist and he can’t compete with us.

Give the guy his glory moment, use him where we can.

We don’t need to go the McCain, Clinton route.

Letting the other side have some respect doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It allows them to look decent at home, and it makes them less likely to be angry and want to go to war with you.

You just have to be firm when it’s called for.

And they are probably more of an immediate danger to our way of life than is Putin.

I see him for exactly what he is.

He’s very problematic. If we can use him, fine.

I’d rather have him involved with us doing something good, than making statements in the international arena defying us to do things against Syria and the like.

If we can get him to go after ISIS with us and agree or acquiesce to arm the Kurds, what’s not to like?

No, I do see some serious problems with Putin.

I’m not in the tank for him by any means.

I defend him at times, and I criticize him at times.

It’s depends what he’s up to.

He didn’t give us much grief when we attacked Syria after the gas incident. He’s not totally belligerent towards us.
