Any parent who leaves a child in the "care" of what is essentially a stranger, is either terribly naive, or complicit in neglect of the child.

That's rather judgmental.

And you sound just like a liberal arguing for gun control. "If just one life could be saved..."

Fact is, this is a one in a million occurrence like another poster here said. Probably more than a one in a million chance. More kids probably die in their own homes than in a day care.

Not that I'm a big fan of day care. Having a stay at home mother is preferable. But that's just not practical for a lot of families.

Having a stay at home mother is preferable. But that's just not practical for a lot of families.

The 60s feminists (actually Marxists) convinced a lot of Americans of this, sadly.

Having a stay at home mother (or other very close, loving relative) is not just preferable – it is essential to the baby's future well-being.

Why do you think we have so many "lost children" today? Drug-addicted, depressed, unemployable, suicidal. Well into their 20s, 30s and even 40s.

Very often the reason is that these young people never bonded appropriately with their parents when they were small children. This can cause psychological damage for a lifetime.

Wait a minnit. Hammerhead says it’s a “one and (sic) 100 million” case; you say one in a million. Can’t you scientists get your phony stats right?

Thanks for saying that. My wife has chosen in her 40s to work and go to school to retrain. She had to put our 4th and last in daycare.

My son is in the age 2 to 4 room, and there are at least 3 daycare attendants at all times. Very rarely would a single day care provider be alone with a child. Maybe taking them to the washroom, and washroom door is left open at all times.

I think these precautions are for their benefit as much as ours, as no one wants to be the target of an accusation.

I feel comfortable about the care center he attends, and spend our quality time together evenings and weekend.

I also like how loving they are with the children. SO hopefully in the end a great choice.

Societies can make many choices in the face of circumstances that are not ideal.

We don’t have a black-and-white question here. Sometimes we have to go for the lightest grey we can find.

And yet in the long term there is much to be said for readjustments of families so that they can be together more in a good way. We don’t have an either-or that is static, we have a both-and that is dynamic.
