Rep. Chaffetz responds to FBI’s refusal to turn over Comey memos

The FBI sent a letter to House Oversight Committee chairman Jason Chaffetz Thursday saying it would not be turning over memos written by former FBI Director James Comey. From Politico:

In a letter to Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), the FBI’s assistant director for congressional affairs, Gregory Brower, said the bureau can’t provide the memo until it consults with Robert Mueller, the new special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s election meddling.

In light of Mueller’s appointment “and other considerations,” Brower wrote, “we are undertaking appropriate consultation to ensure all relevant interests implicated by your request are properly evaluated.” Brower pledged to update the Oversight panel “as soon as possible.”

Chaffetz has already responded to the FBI letter. He writes that he has no desire to “impede or interfere” with Mueller’s investigation and that his investigation will focus on “the independence of the FBI, including conversations between the President and Comey and the process by which Comey was removed from his role as director.” He continues, “The records being withheld are central to those questions, even more so in light of Comey’s decision not to testify before the Committee at this time.”

Chaffetz then requests documents which he says are “outside the scope of the Special Counsel’s investigation” be turned over to the committee by June 8th. Specifically, he requests “memoranda, notes, summaries and recordings” of communication between Comey and any White House employee up to the president since last September.

I’m not sure why the FBI would refuse to turn over Comey’s memos on the grounds that the bureau needs to check in with Robert Mueller first unless the concern is that, once the documents are handed over to Congress, the contents will immediately leak to the media.~~~~~~~~Wonder what we will learn from he memos...

Chaffetz... writes... that his investigation will focus on... the process by which Comey was removed from his role as director.”

Chaffetz can investigate the process, or he can refer to the Constitution which gives Trump the authority to preside over the executive branch without interference from gutless people like himself.

They’ll do the old “A Beautiful Mind” on them.

Take the 5th and 13th letter from every 4th and 6th line of every 3rd memo, run them through an Ovaltine decoder ring and finally get to the truth.

Chaffetz needs to inform the FBI that he’d best not be reading about “notes from other memos in the press or elsewhere, having again been ‘leaked’ by Comey, or there will be Hell to pay, Mueller or no Mueller!”

He should also turn over the memos of the Tarmac meeting, Clinton case, FISA warrants, Russian fake pee gate, conversations with the Loretta, IRS Scandal, etc... He better not have taken memos, or a crap load of dems are going to jail.

Well, actually, he’s doing the right thing here. Why does the FBI want to cover up Comey’s famous “memos”?

Jason Chafetz=Col. Klink

I’ve had it up to my eyeballs with “congressional investigations.” These “congressional investigators” couldn’t determine the source of “human methane excretions” if they were to walk by the men’s room in the Capitol.

The committee has subpoena power. It can demand the info be turned over. Or else, jail the Director. Literally.
And then ask his deputy for the info. And repeat, if necessary.

Somewhere someone has to assert the people’s authority over the deep state, or else the Republic is dead.

“we are undertaking appropriate consultation to ensure all relevant interests implicated by your request are properly evaluated.”

Ie, we are making sure nothing is in there that would be favorable to Trump.

Since Congress has the power of the purse I think they should start sequestering operating funds to each of these powerful and unelected agencies.

The initial sequester should be minor to remind these unelected bureaucrats that they must and will answer to Congress’s requests and summonses.

When, notice not if, they refuse to do so then the amount of the sequestered funds goes up, with compounded daily interest applied.

It is long past time that these bureaucrats and their private empires are brought to heel. The long term failure of Congress to do so has resulted in numerous violations of the Bill of Rights, innumerable politically driven leaks, more than a few affecting national security, and the establishment of the “Deep State” that KNOWS they will not be held accountable no matter what they do to whomever.
