You have probably seen them—bushels of stories about how the nine federal resettlement contractors are wailing and moaning as Trump cuts off their refugee/money flow—but I was surprised that the Wall Street Journal didn’t do a little better job of putting it all in perspective.
For new readers like Nancy, here are the nine federal resettlement contractors (aka Volags, short for Voluntary Agencies, Ha! Ha!) that make up the “refugee-resettlement industry:”
The WSJ does make it clear that these NON-Profit groups (six are ostensibly religious groups) are paid by the head to place refugees in your towns and get them signed up for their stuff. For the first few years that I wrote this blog, mainstream media never mentioned that fact! So, yes, their budgets will vary as they have become almost completely dependent on federal money for their salaries/benefits, office rental, travel, etc.
For them to be whining that they have to raise private money for their ‘religious’ charitable work as refugee numbers vary makes me want to scream. When the Refugee Act of 1980 became law it was supposed to be a public-private partnership, but as the years have passed, federal funding (and state and local funding!) has become a greater and greater share.
Before I give you the latest whine-fest from the WSJ, here is how the contractors got in to this pickle. Obama set the CEILING for FY17 at 110,000 in his final months in office. The WSJ tells us it was the highest ceiling since 1995. Thus the contractors were building their budgets on a pipe dream of more paying clients (aka refugees) than they have had for years and years.
Rest of article and charts at this link.
I wonder how much Hell We the People would have to raise to COMPLETELY STOP THIS INSANITY?
ALL refugee resettlement should IMMEDIATELY CEASE! America has enough problems without importing several thousand illiterate welfare moochers every year!
the real kicker is that these “refugees” are fast tracked to become citizens and VOTERS. FIVE YEARS!
“How much financial assistance do refugees receive?
The Federal government provides $925 per refugee to cover the costs of housing, household goods, food, and pocket money for the first 30 days. Beyond that, refugees may qualify for other public assistance programs such as Match Grant (an early employment program), TANF, or Refugee Cash Assistance.
How long can refugees stay in the US?
Refugees may stay in the US indefinitely. They are provided with a pathway to citizenship and usually can apply within five years.
What rights do refugees have?
Refugees have the same rights and responsibilities as US citizens. However, they cannot vote until they become a citizen, and they cannot hold certain elected offices.”

I live in a bedroom community of Birmingham, AL, which is middle/upper middle class, 80% white. 4 homes in our neighborhood have this sign in their front yard. I just noticed another 3 in the surrounding community. The generations after the Baby Boomers have virtually been brainwashed into accepting cultural Marxism/ PC/ pluralism/ moral relativism/ inclusiveness/ tolerance/ diversity.
Oh. My. God.
I think refugee status shouldn’t be permanent. We need to pack them up after a few years and send them back. A few years is enough time for things to settle in their homelands. If they’re not willing to fight for their own homelands, I doubt they’ll do much to stand up for ours.
Thanks very much Liz.
I failed to track other “charity” rackets, but have been barking against Catholic Charities for ages.
It’s become especially egregious under Bush and out of hand under Obama, obviously a NORTH AMERICAN “COMMUNITY” (UNION)
assault.
BTW, Hidey Cruz assisted in the CFR paper development on the so-called NACommunity. Goldman sponsored her participation and subsequently became her barrel of fish donors, for Tedlit Cruz’ campaign money tree. They are all in on it, together.
BUMP to the TOP.
Eh not exactly winning if you actually read the article...We are treading water at best...From what I read, she is not pleased with Trump administration track record on this issue—feels that Ivanka should stay out of it and that the Refugee issue could have and should have been separated from the Travel Ban...
I am not sure what Trump could have done prior to inauguration, but the influx now is still high.
From the article:
That 110,000 was, by far, Obamas highest ceiling as we have reported ad nuaseum and as you can see in this chart from the Refugee Processing Center and is being used dishonestly as the benchmark for measuring the Trump flow:
Note that the US DOS has gotten around to removing the 110,000 ceiling for FY2017. This chart last month still listed it. See last month here:
Last night I wondered just how the first seven months of the fiscal year matched up (FY17 runs from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017).
AT THE END OF APRIL, WE ARE 7 COMPLETE MONTHS INTO THE FISCAL YEAR, AND THOSE WAILING CONTRACTORS HAVE BEEN PAID HANDSOMELY FOR 7 MONTHS BASED ON THE FACT THAT BY APRIL 30, WE HAD ADMITTED MORE PAYING CLIENTS/REFUGEES THAN ANY OF THE PREVIOUS TENNNNN (10!!!) YEARS. Do the math using the chart above!
As of the end of April, the US admitted 42,414 refugees, the highest number in the first seven months of any of the years since before FY07. In fact, Bush had the lowest first seven months in 200717,150, but even Saint Obama had only 26,181 in FY12 as of April 30th. He never had a year with this high number (by April 30th) in his time in office.
The USCCB here, is resettling muslim immigrants, not christians, for many years. Then again, the pope set the example on his trip to the Middle East.
Catholic ping!
More proof that the invasion of the United States was being bought and paid for by the Democrats via the taxpayer.
Makes sense to me. It helps to keep Christian charities as Christian, if there is no link to the Federal dole.
Very interesting read. Thanks.
Hey, using tax payer dollars, funneled into these ‘fake’ charities makes US members of all manner of religious institutions... Talk about funding on ‘humans’ as commodities in the name of religions... Wait until the folks seeking retribution of the slave days get wind of where real tax dollars are funneled.
but these animals from Syria?....not in a million years...
“” Human Services also provided a number of entitlements to these refugees....including a 21,000 dollar stipend for each refugee. “”
This is one of those “ why the HELL do I even bother to pay my taxes” moments..
Cringe-worthy factoid.
I wonder what the under the table house rake is on that 21k per business refugee. I’ll bet it’s pretty steep. What a racket.
Mulvaney’s commenting on this type of idiocy now...
He’s making a great case for ‘compassion’ needing to take into account the people (taxpayers) who are having money taken out of their wallets to assist others. He says there must be a balance between those who ‘get’ the benefit of taxes and those who PAY the taxes. Compassion for both.
This guy’s another great Trump choice...
Nothing BUT a racket. Well put.
I agree.
