Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for an escalation of the already unprecedented obstructionist activity of his caucus until a special prosecutor is appointed to handle an investigation into Russian collusion, during an interview Sunday on CNNs State of the Union.
Host Jake Tapper asked Schumer about a suggestion from Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), the vice chairman on the Senate Intelligence Committee, that Democrats should refuse to vote on the nomination of a new FBI director until a special prosecutor is appointed.
Schumer said that he supports that move.
In a separate interview Sunday on "State of the Union," Tapper asked Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla.) if she agreed with the Senate Democrats' desire to obstruct the FBI director confirmation process if their demands for a special prosecutor are not met.
"I think the idea of holding up the Senate, holding the Congress hostage in order to get this done, isn't exactly what our constituents sent us to Washington to do," Murphy said.
Murphy suggested members of her own party should focus on issues rather than trumped-up political controversies.
"The other thing is that in the House, we're up for re-election in about 18 months. And I don't know about them, but I want to run against a fellow American on the issues that matter to my constituents," Murphy said. "I don't want to be running against the Russians and their misinformation campaign."

These seditious bastards need to be brought to heel! All regular, normal order is out the window. Ram it all down their throats!!!
These libtard idiots are spinning a gossamer fabric out of thin air. They are basing premises on lies-—if this (which is not true in the first place), then that (no, logic doesn’t quite work that way, honey). Meanwhile, while there is actual important governing business to attend to, they are wasting the time they are paid to do that work trying to wedge into Trump’s presidency any lousy way they can. Try them for sedition and hang ‘em.
Hallucinatory relapse from too many psychoactive drugs — a common D politician disease these days?
Schumer and Warner need to shut their holsters.
Schumer is soiling his absorbent adult undergarments.
I’d be open to beatings before the hangings.
I still haven’t heard how the Russians influenced the election. Just that they have.
Surely the Russians didn’t make me vote Trump.
Schumer does not want to do the difficult things it takes to make things better for his country. He would rather have fun and act like a grade school kid. Being an obstructionist is an easy game. It is not adult behavior and certainly not that of a leader. He is the embodiment of those leeches that propagate The Swamp in Washington D.C.
I look at the treatment of Obama compared to the treatment of Trump. It’s a night and day difference.
It really got to me that Obama won. I sucked it up and went on with life.
Yes, I belched and carped and complained, but I never denied him the right to be president. He was elected. That’s how it works.
I did note the problems along the way. I was the loyal opposition. I believe in going by the law. I advocated for that.
These people are just plain refusing to accept that Trump is the president and he is authorized to lead this nation.
I don’t know what we can do about this, but the House and Senate leadership needs to crack the whip and get these jerks back in order.
It appears there was more than one empty suit in DC. Are there no tailors in that God forsaken city?
Well said.
Evidently...
A decline in courage may be the most striking feature that an outside observer notices in the West today. The Western world has lost its civic courage, both as a whole and separately, in each country, in each government, in each political party, and, of course, in the United Nations. Such a decline in courage is particularly noticeable among the ruling and intellectual elites, causing an impression of a loss of courage by the entire society. There are many courageous individuals, but they have no determining influence on public life (Harvard Speech, 1978)Alexander Solzhenitsyn
I do not see loss of courage, just bought and paid for swamp dwelling scumbag, grifters and thieves.
In mine, I'm seen as the opinionated one who must be tolerated or spoken down to like a child. There is no chance that an alternative view can be heard by them, so sure they are with their New Yorker articles or Times’ nonsense. Climate change was impossible to argue because scientists have bought into proving the phony premise. Trump and Russia are simple by comparison. But the revulsion by them toward Trump is insurmountable.
Which demonstrates that Americans “think” with their feeling of rage toward their opposition. Only during the Vietnam War were so many of us so brainwashed into rage and some like Bill Ayres, Obama’s handler, into outright killing.
It is doubtful we can reverse course. The destruction of the rational faculty via Progressive education is complete.
The Senate can and should expel this jackass.
You may be right about the larceny.
Yup...you get the gist of what the left is doing.
