Christian printer doesn’t have to make pro-gay shirts, appeals court rules (KY)

A Kentucky appeals court has upheld the conscience rights of a Christian printer who refused to make shirts promoting a gay-pride festival.

In the 2-1 decision handed down Friday, Chief Judge Joy A. Kramer said she found no evidence that the store owner “refused any individual the full and equal enjoyment of goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations it offered to everyone else because the individual in question had a specific sexual orientation or gender identity.”

Blaine Adamson is the owner of Hands On Originals, a Christian company that prints messages on T-shirts, pens, mugs and other accessories.

He declined in 2012 to create shirts promoting the Lexington Pride Festival, an event put on by the Gay and Lesbian Services Organization, because he said the message on the shirts ran contrary to his beliefs.

A sound decision, as decling to protest print the gay shirts does not appear to violate state or local law.

Not trying to be sacrilegious here, but was there a ruling on the rainbow thing? Does God have to let them use it?

I find it really annoying that they have essentially hijacked rainbows and the word gay.

Couldn’t agree more with the hijacking of rainbows and the word gay.

Worked with a great guy way back when named Gaylord and we all referred to him as Gay, of course that was before gay was hijacked.

I’m sure that did rub you the wrong way.

You used to be able to talk about folks being gleeful and gay.

Not any more...

It's the first thing I thought of.

Opponents of this ruling are no doubt contacting the Ninth Circuit as we speak.

Yes. It is really evil the way the Marxists destroy our Words and Language. It is their MO so they can literally make Evil into Good and Good into Evil.

Wittgenstein noted that those who control the Words (adjectives/definitions) WILL determine the “thinking” of the masses.

It should be illegal to use the word “marriage’ and connect it two males who sodomize each other. it destroys the meaning of the word and to use it in “legal’ documents removes Justice (virtue) and Right Reason from “just law” —the only constitutional kind.

If we had a true “justice” system, they would never allow the vice of sodomy to steal the Christian symbols and turn them into vulgar, degrading sexual acts and indoctrinate little children with the satanic religion where sodomy is “Good” and “Natural” (both lies)-—it destroy the language and warps truth and justice and destroys logic and reason in children.

But, alas, we have a vice system and parents tend to “think” that their children won’t be warped and destroyed by the indoctrination system; that they won’t turn out to be ignorant, dumb snowflakes who will never be able to use their own mind and will have the morality of a muslim male.

Well it’s a start. These bakers all across the country who have lost everything because of their religious convictions should be able to sue these gay organizations to recoup at least some of their loss.

Can't. Kentucky isn't in the 9th Circuit Court jurisdiction. Have to file with the 6th Circuit Court to appeal the ruling. Not sure of the makeup of that court.

I agree with your comments about Marxists and their destructive intent.

Yes, the ripping off of the concept of marriage is another sign of the times.

Agreed.

Yes, businesses should be able to recoup losses of these pathetic rulings up to this point and SCOTUS should settle this once and for all in the near future that people of faith and businesses owned by them have the right to refuse any service that goes against their faith.

Thank God!

Perhaps with a more sane president in the White House, these insane rulings forcing people to do things against their morals and beliefs will fade away.

The tyrannical judges who love to force moral people to do things against their will can’t be completely blind to the fact that their tyranny is not well-accepted. Now, if they could only be removed.

This case is in state court, not federal court.

Next step for perv losers is an appeal to the Kentucky Supreme Court.

Then would be request for review by US Supreme Court.

Christian businesses are going to have to get smarter. This decision is a fluke and will probably be appealed and will require loads more money.

Christian businesses should accept the job, require payment in advance at 5-10 times the going rate and subcontract it out to a competitor.

I'm not so annoyed at the word "gay" being re-purposed, because it wasn't really in common usage and we have lots of words for happy, glad, joyful etc.

The rainbow thing is a bit more annoying because apart for its significance in the Noah story of Genesis its a beautiful unique thing in nature, and I would be equally annoyed if some corporation had hijacked it.

I don't know law better than your average Joe, I am very dubious its actionable. Its not like anybody owns the concept of rainbows or words that were in common usage at one point, and its not like a single legal entity is trying to set it up as a brand or trademark etc.
