Senate confirms Trump's chief trade negotiator

The Senate on Thursday easily confirmed President Trump’s nominee for United States trade representative.

After months of delays, Robert Lighthizer sailed through in an 82-14 confirmation vote.

The bulk of the Trump administration’s trade agenda has been in a holding pattern, leaving issues such as the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the direction of future global deals up in the air while Lightizer waited for Senate approval...

Republican Sens. John McCain (Ariz.) and Ben Sasse (Neb.) had written a letter to Lighthizer saying they would oppose his nomination because “your confirmation process has failed to reassure us that you understand the North American Free Trade Agreement’s positive economic benefits to our respective States and the nation as a whole."

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said while he supported Lighthizer, he couldn’t vote to confirm him because of all that has happened this week with the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

President Trump could not have asked for a more incompetent leader of the opposition. It's as if Schumer looks into the camera and admits, "I am a worthless hack loser with no integrity."

Pretty funny that McCain and Sasse managed to make a news story out of opposing this nomination.

Yep. and Gardner joined McCain and Sasse voting NO. Four Rep senators did not even vote: Murkowski, Capito, Sullivan, and Isakson. I wonder what the story was on them.

He’s not a member of the Trilateral Commission, which seems to have a monopoly on trade representatives in the U.S. But he is a member of the CFR.

WE simply HAVE to seriously work to put McCain away.If he is still alive when he comes up for reelection. Able bodied younger people need to go to AZ with a long list of his betrayals against the nation and go door to door. Actually we need to start working on how he got elected the last time Fraud. Had to be.

There ought to be a word that goes beyond the encompassing of the foulest descriptions known to man. The word should be used to describe an individual so ungodly, so untrustworthy as to be beyond the abnormal

Left to my own devices I have created such a word. It is zazzu. Thus, McCain, you are a zazzu.

In the primary, Democrats crossed-over to vote for him. Some 40% of Republicans voted against him, and most were aware that he was staying on in the hope of keeping the seat warm for his ditzy daughter.
