President Donald Trump is considering Mike Rogers, a former Republican congressman and FBI agent from Michigan, among candidates to replace James Comey as FBI director, a White House official said.
Rogers, 53, a former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, retired from Congress in 2015 after seven terms to pursue a career in talk radio. He advised the Trump presidential transition team on national security issues but was asked to leave at about the same time New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was removed as head of the transition.
Trump fired Comey on Tuesday after what White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders described as months of rising frustration with the FBI director, dating back to Trumps election. Comey was leading the FBI investigation of potential collusion between Trump campaign officials and Russian government officials who sought to manipulate the outcome of the U.S. presidential election. Comey also publicly dismissed Trumps claim that former President Barack Obama spied on him.
The firing has plunged the Trump White House into another political crisis, as Democrats have roundly castigated the decision and some Republicans have expressed unease.
What Happens to Trump-Russia Probe After Comey: QuickTake Q&A
Rogers didnt immediately respond to a request for comment.
Sheriff Clarke!!!!!!!!!!
I do believe this is fake news...
I have not seen anywhere where his name was mentioned...
And because he was Comey’s ‘other arm’ I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him...
Not only NO, but HELL NO!!!
No! Absolutely NO!
Andy McCarthy!
For those who don’t know who he is....
Michael J. “Mike” Rogers (born June 2, 1963) is a CNN National Security Commentator.
He was the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 8th congressional district, serving from 2001 to 2015. He is a member of the Republican Party and was Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
In June 2016, he presented a six-part series on CNN, titled Declassified: Untold Stories of American Spies.
I’ve said it once, I will say it again...I nominate General Stanley McChrystal as FBI Director!!!
I’m betting Giuliani or Christie. Trump wants friends in high places.
Ray Kelly, Longest serving Police Commissioner of NYC, a marine, cop, intelligence officer and lawyer, would be a great fit. Totally apolitical.
The only caveat is this — He is 75 years old and the FBI director is a 10 year term.
He would be good for 4 years by which we have to find another director.
General Stanley McChrystal
Sounds good to me.........;)
Why not Jared Kushner while you're at it?
Maybe Hillary Clinton should be considered?
(Illustrating absurdity with absurdity)
Find a hotshot HRM expert and develop a matrix of criteria. Solicit. Interview. Weigh the candidates against the list of criteria.
I’m sure there are names floating around, but measuring them with the interview against the criteria really helps sort through the candidates.
I think McChrystal would be a superb choice.
Here’s a thought. Troy Landry.
Trump hired McMaster. I would not be surprised he screws this up too.
I totally agree.
Sheriff Clarke deserves serious consideration.
I hope he will be nominated asap.
He definitely is a no nonsense enforcer of law and order!!!
Trump should get an above all loyalist. Too many, in and out of government are working to destroy the Trumpster, as Comey was in the process of doing.
