Sanders also says Senate should use Australian system as model while crafting an alternative to Republicans replacement for Obamacare
Bernie Sanders has declared President Donald Trump was right to say Australia has better healthcare than the US.
Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination last year, said the US Senate should use the Australian system as a model while crafting an alternative to the Republican healthcare legislation that Trump endorses.
President Trump is right. The Australian healthcare system provides healthcare to all of its people at a fraction of the cost than we do, Sanders commented on Twitter.

Yeah for a country with the population of Los Angeles. And a minuscule amount of illegal aliens, a natural border, its an island continent.
The US is 14 times as large.
So what about “universal” life, disability, auto, home and renters insurance, Bernie? Why just single out health? Let’s go the whole kaboodle and you can pay for it. After all, don’t breadwinners die early, disasters hit homeowners and renters? Don’t people get injured on and off the job?
Oh, then there’s crop insurance, flood insurance, pet insurance . . .I mean, come on, you don’t want Fido to be turned away at the Specialty Vet Hospital do you?
“INSURANCE” for EVERYONE...YESSSS
When is the last time we heard about medical innovation coming from Down Under? More freeloaders on the US system.
Socialism doesn’t work regardless of size.
Anyone calling for single payer medical insurance is a fool. I don’t care who or what it is.
So called “coverage for pre-existing conditions” isn’t insurance. It’s welfare or charity.
This isn’t responding to you necessarily, but to the entire forum.
Oh, and remember how this type of “insurance” is supposed to cover just about everything—including if you don’t bother to sign up for it until you’re basically busted up.
“A minuscule amount of illegal aliens, a natural border, its an island continent.”
Right and a near universal work ethic. It would be worse disaster to mimic the Ausie system here. It was a dumb thing for Trump to say. I believe Trump secretly believes in single payer that allows private insurance to exist along side. Come to think of it that’s damn close to what we have.
We will one day be Venezuela.
It will happen in our lifetime when Bernie Sanders and his friends get elected.
We will see it.
Providing for all is much different than the quality of such care. I think there are idiots on both sides of this issue but the proof of the socialist answer is Cuba and Venezuela. Government needs to get out of the way and people need to know that control of health policy is absolute control.
I went to Oz last year, was not impressed with their socialistic views, like looking at contented happy sheep too well fed and not likely to riot, fight or to leave their green pastures.
America needs a bit of harshness to keep us frosty and alert.
So screw all you who whines you cant live properly unless you have safe zones happy zones and perfect health. What doesn’t kills us makes us stronger.
And i wasn’t being sarcastic to you, just socialistic agenda’s and those trying to start one.
In all fairness, Australia has 5
for a small country.
Out of the top 50 rated schools,
The US has 12 rated 5 star.
Australia, for a much smaller country has 3
In the end, Australia has some very fine med schools, teaching and doing research.
But, make no mistake, the entire world benefits from the US' research and development.
40% of all medical research, done throught the world, is from the US.
The US makes up 4.28% of the worlds population.
The US has about 19% of the entire worlds GDP
>>The US has about 19% of the entire worlds GDP
Socialists want to “fix” that. Globalists want to “fix” that too.
Australia 24 million people
United States 322 million people
See the difference Bernie?
Go back to sleep. We will wake you if we need you.

Anyway, they tried to bring up some good stuff about pre-existing conditions. One option is to have pre-existing conditions go into a managed health care system that would keep uninsurable stuff out of insurance. It does seem like a reasonable way to manage costs and keep insurance affordable.
A good point came up that the HOR plan does nothing to bend health care cost downward. Why isn't ending advertising of pharmaceuticals part of the reform? If people weren't demanding what they "heard on TV" they'd be more open to low-cost options. Another Senator brought up the need for price transparency and a list of options.
Australia has it’s share of on-the-dole population.
It’s a lot like the us was 40 yeas ago.
Their current health system works well imho. There is their version of Medicaid...but everyone gets it...rich and poor alike. It is an inferior product like public transport...the more money a buyer has, the less demand for it. Then there is also a private insurance market.
I have family there and they do quite well. They have a card swiped to use the “Medicaid” if they choose (e.g. a trip to the pharmacy) ...or they can use the private insurance they purchased that gets better service.
Say you want an MRI bc an accident makes you think you’ve damaged your knee... wait and wait for it to be approved thru “Medicaid” and eventually see a doc but not the best... or if you have your own insurance you see a good doc quick.
It’s a two-tiered system but it damn sure works. BUT they have near zero illegals.
I didn’t say they didn’t have good doctors. I said they, like most of the world, are free riders on our innovation.
Actually I am waiting for the Australian developed stem cell into knee and other Joint cartilage to come here, very high success rate and just a simple injection procedure. There are plenty of medical advances coming out of other countries Canada, Israel, England and Australia in particular.
