Rand Paul on Omnibus Spending Bill:‘President Hillary Clinton Would Have Been Proud of This Bill’
breitbart ^ | SEN. RAND PAUL

Posted on 05/03/2017 5:03:00 AM PDT by davikkm

Looking at all the smiling faces on the other side of the aisle, I have to ask: are Democrats still the minority party? You would be tempted to think the $1 trillion government funding deal is like Christmas morning for them, as Republicans have handed them free media to brag about how much of the President’s agenda they have stopped.

You’ll see it in the news as an “Omnibus spending bill,” when it should really be called “the Status Quo Protection Act.” President Hillary Clinton would have been proud of this bill.

It tosses out campaign promises as it continues to fund the military industrial complex and the welfare state.

It not only rejects President Trump’s calls for cuts to multiple agencies, but it increases their funding by millions of dollars.

It paves the way for those agencies to engage in more “use it or lose it” September spending.

It leaves our deficit at well over $500 million.

While good provisions are tucked in, “[o]verall,” as Bloomberg reported, “the compromise resembles more of an Obama administration-era spending bill than a Trump one.”

Instead of legislating from crisis to crisis, Republicans should use fiscal deadlines to articulate the principles that supposedly set us apart – to boldly defend the conservative philosophy that fueled the country’s growth and can lead it into a new era of prosperity.

Yet, for too long, Republican majorities have backed down from those debates. Like Monty Python’s Sir Robin, they have turned and fled from what seems the least bit threatening, with no shortage of people willing to sing their praises for “bravely” doing so.

There is absolutely no difference between establishment GOP and the Democrat party. Two sides of the same coin.

One only need look to the threads on the budget to hear the chorus...though small.

Party pimps = plantation living.

Beltway theater here. Rand is real good at self servingly running his mouth and undermining President Trump. Delivering for conservatives, OTOH, not so much.

I support Trump fully but not this omnibus.

I heard a spending bill takes 60 votes to get through the Senate. That will mean about 12-14 Republicans will have to vote for this bill. I haven’t heard it addressed anywhere but it sounds like this bill can be stopped.

I could have the Senate rules wrong but that is what I heard, 60 votes.

"Rand is real good at self servingly running his mouth and undermining President Trump."

I'm sorry, but what the hell are you going on about? Rand Paul has been one of President Trump's biggest supporters and advocates in the U.S. Senate, if not all of Congress.

Yep. Very disappointing.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

Leaders have to make tough decisions. I like Rand Paul; but these Senators don’t have to deal with a lot of this and can sit back and talk.

No, it’s not meet the boss, same as the old boss.

The Trump administration has done a number of pro-life acts, so if one is just another Trump detractor who cares not about the unborn, you may be able to say that and I question as to whether one is Conservative as well.

Nonsense, the republicans are playing 6 D Multidimensional Layered Extraterrestrial Chess. It only looks like we are losing.

There is a point where blind loyalty to Trump gets stupid. Rand is correct, the rinos and dems are in control and Trump can not get the things he promised with them in control.....that is the point. Whether you see it or not, the American people are going to blame republicans and Trump for the rino actions in congress. This is why it is bad to hold your nose and vote for a rino over a dem......THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE and when it counts it destroys the party.

Would you like a hanky? Dems fight for every inch. Tantruming conservatives, OTOH, look for the first place to jump ship. They don’t call it the Surrender Party for nothing and right now we are getting the GOP we deserve.

Shut up Rand. We don’t have a president Hillary so the only point is equating the GOP to Hillary. What a team player.

No, Rand is not right. How’s his health care bill coming? Maybe he should spend less time gum flapping on TV and more time trying to get his colleagues on board.

Your blind loyalty to Ted Cruz and the rest of the careerist GOP plantation conservatives has gotten you what exactly? Nothing. They are playing you like a fiddle while they get rich.

Unsurprisingly, you mistake blind loyalty for pragmatic support of our POTUS. Simple fact is the more POTUS is attacked by his base the stronger the GOPe and Dems get. They feel more empowered to seize the beltway agenda. Is that what you really want?

The Jared Kushner chicken is coming home to roost. You reach across the aisle to make a deal with the democrats, you draw back a stump. Trump is being made to look like a chump. He will not like that, not one bit. I foresee the Trump sons having a talk with him that goes something like this “Dad, we love our sister but . . . “

Trump has to come to the realization that a large chunk of his own party want him to fail. They hated him during the campaign and they continue to despite his election. Heretofore he has tried to work with them to no avail. He is going to have to declare war and start calling them out on both sides of the aisle.

Is this bill what you want? “We have to pass healthcare before tax cuts”????? Really? Since when? Says who? Trump hasn’t a clue what is going on therefore he listens to and trusts Ryan and mcconnell. why do you assume that Rands comments are trashing Trump. He is talking about the bill. Trump loyalty on here is no different than Obama’s loyalty. Trump is a deal maker he will promise you everything but only plans to give you some. We freepers are no different to trump than democrats. Doesn’t mean I don’t like the guy, it’s just the way it is. Trump is not for our agenda, he just wants to do things better. Heck he is for single payer healthcare, his beef with obamacare is that it costs too much and doesn’t cover everyone, not that it government control socialize medicine.
