There are a lot of reasons women hire men. I could lay out several dozens.

One possibility was she initially wanted a kid with no male in her life.
Until the reality of the cost and hard work of raising a child overwrote her fantasy of her perfect two person family.

This strikes me as likely in this case since she isn’t trying to sue some pharmaceutical company for failure of their product.
