Congressional negotiators reached a bipartisan deal late Sunday to fund the federal government through September, easing the threat of a shutdown but denying President Trump several key priorities including money for his promised border wall with Mexico.
The estimated $1-trillion omnibus package would provide $12.5 billion in increased military funding, about half the amount Trump requested from Congress. Another $2.5 billion for defense is available if the administration submits a counter-terrorism strategy to fight Islamic State.
But the final deal failed to include the big cuts to domestic non-defense accounts that Trump was seeking, and thus emerged as something of an embarrassment to the White House in his first budget negotiation with Congress.
It actually would increase federal spending on medical research, green energy programs and other areas that the White House had pegged for sharp reductions. Under it, the National Institutes of Health would see an increase of 6%, or $2 billion....

Yep
Trump asked for 1.4 billion for the wall and the bill has 1.5 billion for “border security”.
Detention center beds and cameras don’t cost 1.5 billion. Trump got the funding he wanted. The democrats saved face and LaRaza got screwed over.
What little I have read says this is DOA. Just look at Trump’s even Saturday night. That is America: Build the Wall, Repeal Obamacare, Deport Illegal Aliens, End Sanctuary Cities, defund Planned Parenthood. None of that in this budget from what I’ve read. GOPe, RINOs, and the Dems, if they had half a mind, area all winners, the American people AND Trump lose. As I see this $1T “deal”, where is Trump? Surely he won’t endorse this BS that flies in the face of why he was elected?
Exactly what I was thinking. Homeland will use that money for the Wall. Siphon money from some other agencies that are doing nothing but wasting it. The Wall has to be and will be built.
I appreciate you posting on these threads mentioning this aspect of the bill. It’s an important point.
So glad to have been off base in my first take on this.

I don’t believe that a budget item means that you must spend it all!
So Congress approves the top line spending for each budget spending category, then the executive branch can decide what to spend in each category, and if it doesn’t exceed the category max, it’s good to go!
Drain The Swamp! Screw them all.
2nd,
The budget for fiscal year 2018 is the real battle, which will be fought over this summer. I predict this will be the last continual resolution.
The bastards should not be welcome home — figuratively speaking....
I think Trump is going to realize soon that that Washington game is rigged against him and that getting things done the traditional way isn’t going to work. Trump needs to tap more into sources of power outside the Beltway. By that I mean his legions of supporters to start with. But he also needs to utilize the support he has in the military, the religious community and patriot organizations.
We can whine about how the liberal scum control our public universities, or we can take them over by getting patriots elected to the boards of regents and helping conservative students wrest student organizations from Team Soros. Same for school boards, which we could easily fill with people dedicated to phasing out and privatizing the indoctrination units.
Trump also could issue an executive order allowing certain carefully vetted Constitutional militias official recognition and empower them to help citizens resist federal tyranny. In the meantime, he should fire leftists in the Pentagon and fill their jobs with people he knows he can trust. Congress needs to know that, if push comes to shove, the military is on Trump’s side and will defend the Constitution.
Lastly, he can order the IRS to not enforce rules against political organizing and endorsements by religious institutions. They should be able to do what they want and also keep their tax-exempt status. Same should be true for patriotic organizations that might now have trouble receiving tax-exempt status.
This might sound like extreme stuff. But if Trump fails, the Plan B would need to be even more radical. We’re very close to being in a situation that would require an American Sulla or American Pinochet as the last resort for ending liberal fascism.
Yep.
The crime of omnibus budgets is that any funds within any department budget can be reappropriated to anything. Just ask the State department. Why even have a congress these days?
That is grand.
The wall will be built.
We’re funding Planned Parenthood, bailing out Puerto Rico, keeping funding for sanctuary cities, no wall, and fully funding the EPA among other things.
Well, Trump is in charge of all the departments now, so he can use the allocated funds for his priorities within each department.
People are fantasizing on this. Reports are that the Demoscum got language blocking use of the border security funds for any work on the Wall. See link above. More battles need to be fought. The RINOs are worse than useless.
Veto the bill, and go golfing while the government is shut down.
Spin this any way you want Wormtongue, and on every thread—but until I see what those weasels agreed to in writing, I’m from Missouri.
Or are we supposed to climb on board and agree that a few crums from the loaf is a wunnerful, wunnerful thing, while the ‘rats crow like dung hill roosters over it, so we can see what’s in it?
The GOPee #nevertrumpers still act like we lost. They make President Trump look weak, like the federal district court clowns.
He should veto it on principle. Kill it. Make them go back and clearly designate a few billion for border wall groundbreaking. If it turns out the Master of the Deal got played, then played along and truckled to these SOBs, maybe because two liberal family members are whispering in his ear, I’m done with him.
See new tagline.
See #16, the Demoscum and RINOs have language in the bill blocking use of the funds for The Wall. The bill should be vetoed. President Trump should go toe to toe with these weasels until they blink.
