The midterm election next year holds the potential for the Republican Party to expand its slender 2-vote majority in the Senate, despite the historical pattern of such elections punishing the party holding the White House. With 25 Democrat senators up for re-election, versus on 9 Republicans, the opportunities for pick-ups are there. But elections are fought one seat at a time. One Democrat incumbent senator got some really terrible news yesterday, as Curt Anderson and Terry Spencer of the Associated Press report: A prominent Florida eye doctor accused of political corruption was convicted of Medicare fraud Friday, increasing the odds that federal prosecutors could pressure him to testify against New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez. Dr. Salomon Melgen faces 15 to 20 years in prison on 67 counts, including health care fraud, submitting false claims and falsifying records in patients' files, unless he offers or accepts a deal before his sentencing, scheduled for July 14. Senator Menendez has been indicted for allegedly accepting bribes from Dr. Melgen: Melgen and Menendez face trial on Sept. 6 in New Jersey on charges the doctor bribed the senator for favors, including intervention in a billing dispute with Medicare.

Not that bad. It went by an underwhelming 55% to 41% for the Butcheress of Benghazi. Dubya got a high of 46% in 2004. His father was the last to win NJ in 1988.
Maybe they can stick the Lout in there again. Yes, I know he’s still dead.
The only impossible feet of which I am aware are size 20.
How about Christie appoints himself as Senator and allows Guadango, his #2 to assume the Governorship? Christie is term limited and Guadango is running as his replacement anyway and this way she can have the advantage of running as an incumbent.
Christie is a RINO for sure but no way a Conservative EVER gets elected in NJ. I would rather have a RINO elected to replace a Lib in the senate than re elect another Liberal.
If Christie is the best we can do... I don’t think he would do it for the team. Governors do not want to be one of the indians. It’s beneath them. A Democrat would do it.

Time for the Torricelli/Lautencorpse Switcherooo to be “authorized” by the NJ Supreme Court. NJ is such a corrupt dump! Politicians there make corkscrews look straight! And don’t you just love the Nazi Stormtrooper outfits that their Highway Patrons wear!
“Didnt Menendez get into the senate as a last-minute replacement for another dirty Democrat a few elections ago?”
No, that was the Torricelli to Lautenberg switch when the RATS found out ( to no one’s surprise) that Torricelli was a crook and was likely going to jail at the last minute. Lautenberg was a former NJ Senator who was so old they called him the Lautencorpse. But the RATS trundled him out and the NJ Supreem Court “decided” it was o.k. to make the substitution in violation of State Law.
If Senator Menendez is convicted and incarcerated, would he have to give up his Senate seat?
“I remember Menendez didnt get on board with one of obamas agendas and soon after, Menendez was under investigation for all kinds of corruption.”
He was against the Iran sellout, or perhaps the Cuba shift...or maybe both. But yea, he DEFINITELY was a thorn in the side of Obama.
My hunch is that given their spying apparatus, the Democrats have “files ready to go” on every Democrat (and probably lots of Republicans), and will use them in a manner which best suits their political agenda. Mendez got out of line...so his filed was referred to the FBI for ‘action’.
Yes. I am from New Jersey. Gov. Christie or the next elected governor, most likely Phil Murphy would choose Menendez’s replacement.
Bob Torricelli is considering running for the Senate again!!
However if the NJ GOP was smart, they would as Tom Kean, Jr. or Jay Webber to run.

It was clear to me that the obama administration and the media unleashed on Menendez when he got out of step with obama. And I believe you’re correct that it was concerning Iran.
Yea, the timing was DEAD ON. It was a clear message that the ‘tools of justice’ as the left calls their power, when in office, can be turned on people that are usually on their side too.
That should scare the left regarding Obama and company...but all it does is result in them being good foot-soldiers for Obama.
We know the obama machine controlled the IRS, FBI, DOJ, CIA, the media, and many others. They could make life bad for anyone they wanted to.
At the least, program a cutoff point where the names and amounts exceeding a certain amount are flagged for review or at least printed out. If they breach some level, it's time to look at them. Maybe they are OK, but right now, evidently, it Katy Bar the Door on committing fraud.
At the Camp Pendleton PX in the '70s, we flagged any orders/vendor payments that went over some set limit. Caught some expensive duplicates that way.
Texas Eagle - I want to thank you for typing demonicRat that way - I was the one who asked you why you put an “i” in demoncrat. Now, when I read it, I can see right away your version, and I like it MUCH better. Thanks again.
Not a chance in H*ll that some Republican - appointed incumbent or not - will be elected senator in NJ - look for pickups elsewhere......
"Opportunities". Hmm.... If the Hillary v Trump electoral map holds true next year, the GOP incumbents will go 8-1 (losing only NEV)... and the Dem incumbents will go 14-11... which means a +10 swing in the Senate, and a filibuster-proof 62-38 GOP majority next year (the largest margin for either party since 1969, and the largest for the GOP since 1911)... so yeah, I'd call it an "opportunity", at the very least... if the GOP leaders have the cojones to wield it properly.
Much obliged. I think either way works.
