Really awful news for Dem senator up for re-election next year
American Thinker ^ | 29 Apr 2017 | Thomas Lifson

The midterm election next year holds the potential for the Republican Party to expand its slender 2-vote majority in the Senate, despite the historical pattern of such elections punishing the party holding the White House. With 25 Democrat senators up for re-election, versus on 9 Republicans, the opportunities for pick-ups are there. But elections are fought one seat at a time. One Democrat incumbent senator got some really terrible news yesterday, as Curt Anderson and Terry Spencer of the Associated Press report: A prominent Florida eye doctor accused of political corruption was convicted of Medicare fraud Friday, increasing the odds that federal prosecutors could pressure him to testify against New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez. Dr. Salomon Melgen faces 15 to 20 years in prison on 67 counts, including health care fraud, submitting false claims and falsifying records in patients' files, unless he offers or accepts a deal before his sentencing, scheduled for July 14. Senator Menendez has been indicted for allegedly accepting bribes from Dr. Melgen: Melgen and Menendez face trial on Sept. 6 in New Jersey on charges the doctor bribed the senator for favors, including intervention in a billing dispute with Medicare.

If Senator Menendez is convicted and incarcerated, it would be up to New Jersey’s incumbent Republican Governor Chris Christie to appoint a replacement, who presumably would be a Republican, who then would be an incumbent in the 2018 November election.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Clarice Feldman would be a good choice?

I know zero about NJ politics other than it's routinely carried by the Rat Party Presidential candidate 70-30.Is it possible that Christie's appointee could actually win a November election?

Well, this explains why my attempt to get paid by Medicare took over 18 months, hundreds of hours, over 35 emails exchanged with a moron gummint slacker before I abandoned the effort altogether. I didn’t buy a Senator.

I still don’t see how Medicare paid out over $100 Million TO ONE DOCTOR. WTF?

I would put my money on Gov. Christie morphing into Sen. Christie.

Seems like Melendez had a special interest in the Caribbean. That can be expensive.

I remember Menendez didn’t get on board with one of obama’s agendas and soon after, Menendez was under investigation for all kinds of corruption.

Other demos should have learned to not cross obama because they would bury you.

Didn’t Menendez get into the senate as a last-minute replacement for another dirty Democrat a few elections ago? Geez - these guys are as bad as Illinois governors.

Any Republican NJ would elect would be worse than a Democrat.

Think Christie Todd Whitman, for example.

It’s time to dissolve the GOP.

Inagine we could get even more republicans in 2018. That would be even more people who can at best do nothing all day, or at worst actively obstruct or backstab Trump 24/7

It’s time to dissolve the GOP.

Maybe, but you certainly don't get there by re-electing a weasel like Bob Menendez to the US Senate.

FReepers from New Jersey can correct me, but IIRC, when Senator Frank Lautenberg died, Governor Christie appointed some no name who didn't even bother to run in the special election 6 months later.

Cory Booker won that election.

"I" have no idea about any viable Republicans in New Jersey, save for Christie himself, but I understand his approval ratings are LOW. Like in the cellar.

“I still don’t see how Medicare paid out over $100 Million TO ONE DOCTOR. WTF?”

How much effort to write a program to list by name and amount paid to each and every doctor on/in the “gubmint” service??

Isn’t that how they “caught” an address in Atlanta getting milions in income tax refunds??
