Here's one great Amendment proposal
Vanity | 04/26/17 | e-mail to me

Posted on 04/26/2017 5:46:18 AM PDT by EXCH54FE

Trump is asking everyone to forward this email to a minimum of 20 people, and to ask each of those to do likewise.c In three days, most people in the United States will have the message. This is an idea that should be passed around.

The TRUMP Rule

Let's see if congress understands what people pressure is all about.

Salary of retired US Presidents .. . . . .. . . . . .. . $180,000 FOR LIFE.

Salary of House/Senate members .. . . . .. . . . $174,000 FOR LIFE. This is stupid

Salary of Speaker of the House .. . . . .. . . . . $223,500 FOR LIFE. This is really stupid

Salary of Majority / Minority Leaders . . .. . . . $193,400 FOR LIFE. Stupid

Average Salary of a teacher . .. . . . .. . . . . .. .$40,065

Average Salary of a deployed Soldier . . .. . . .. $38,000

Here’s where the cuts should be made!

TRUMP, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in five minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election".

The 26th Amendment ( granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds ) took only three months and eight days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure. Trump is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2017

1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman / woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 3/1/17. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.

Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work.

I think someone did check who the email was from.

Any email that asks me to forward it to xx number of other people gets deleted before I read any further.

Gullible schmuck.

Smells like Urban Legend.

I just refuse to check with the leftist Snopes. Maybe someone knows a REAL vetting site?

The salary of congressmen should be high. Because we want competent people who are underpaid even at that.

And because the career of a congressman should be short - 6 years, max.

Nobody should retire as a career legislator. In fact, there should be a minimum age of 35 for all elected offices.

My amendment is to randomize congressional elections. If you get 55% of the vote you get 55 ping-pong balls in the lottery machine. 49%=49 balls, 1%= 1 ball, etc. I’m happy with a few members of congress with 1% of the vote. Smaller parties are likely to have a few representatives, even ones I hate, and that’s good. Big parties have less ability to ram crap through just because they got the majority (obamacare). Even legislation I want should not be rammed through if it’s going to last and not be repealed when my party loses.

There are many pluses:
Congress is no longer a career. The best representative can get 70% of the vote and still be out. Will likely be out in a few elections. They need to worry about governing not raising money and campaigning for 1/2 of the year (or more).

There’s less incentive to donate to the expected winner. And donations to both sides are less meaningful.

Representatives will want to represent as many constituents as possible rather than just 50%+1.

Don’t have to do runoffs or recounts.

Less incentive for fraud. Moving your candidate from 49% to %50 percent with fraud has very little increase in winning.

"Representatives will want to represent as many constituents as possible rather than just 50%+1."

Well, not necessarily. I may decide to run, figuring I can get at least "one ball" in play in the lottery. That gives me more of a chance to win the sit than I could ever hope for in a regular-type election. So I might as well go for it and, if I win, I don't have to represent anyone but myself and the small clique that supported me.

What you would see from such a system is everybody and his brother running for office because everyone reaching the 1% threshold would have almost as good of a chance as anyone to be given the position. If 30,000 people are voting, I only need to convince 300 people to support me and those are the only people I would have to "repay".

My point is that Congress is now a career, with job one being to get reelected.

We need change back to where nobody can retire as a career legislator.

The reason the voting age change passed quickly is because it was thought to favor Democrats. It had nothing to do with “people power.” It’s an apples to oranges comparison here.

Each person elected to Congress should KNOW, of a certainty, that they will be back in the private sector within a short time, AND WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT LAWS THAT THEY JUST HELPED TO PASS.

That will control things to a large extent - but it requires an Amendment to impose term limits. That will simply never get past Congress itself (unless, PERHAPS, it exempts/grandfathers all presently-serving Congressmen). I am also very much in favor of requiring Congress to be on a par with citizens regarding their pensions and their medical care - I’m TIRED of the super-citizen garbage from Crapitol Hill.

"6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. "

Worth repeating!

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

and again

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

I would include Congressional Staff and families as well.

They should have a 401k, like most in the private sector. The gov’t pays up to a matching 6% (they have to contribute also) & when they retire, they retire on their own funds.

Of course, this doesn’t stop them from using their office to become millionaires thru insider trading & such. Best to 1) extremely limit what gov’t is allowed to spend money on (hence no need for lobbyists to pay off politicians), & 2) term limits so they have to go out & earn in the private sector to make their money.

And because the career of a congressman should be short - 6 years, max.

I've long advocated for increasing house terms to three years, limit of two terms; senate terms reduced to five years, two term limit. The cream of the crop would likely serve sixteen years; the rest would be gone much sooner.

But there also has to be a provision to control the unelected bureaucrats who already end up with too much power.

No Congress Critter candidate should be allowed to get campaign donations from outside the district they to want represent.

Only legally registered voters may donate directly to a Federal campaign. No PACs, No bundling, No Faux dinners, No companies.

If it can’t vote it can’t donate. Those organization can advertise but those ads must plainly state who purchased it and where they are headquartered.

In one years time donations from an individual are not to exceed an amount that an average citizen can afford.
