I’m thinking we need to make it a job requirement that to hold office in the House or Senate a child or spouse must serve in a combat position or be deployed in a designated combat zone. That might give them something else to worry about than screwing us.

He has learned nothing

If a person has more medical needs, they pay higher insurance - same as having to pay higher car insurance if you have more tickets or accidents.

The car insurance analogy doesn't exactly apply here. With higher car insurance premiums you are penalizing risky behavior, risky driving habits, etc. With higher health insurance premiums you can penalize high risk habits too, like smoking, drinking, recreational drugs.. but some medical conditions that incur high expenses are simply the result of the luck of draw. Why should they pay a higher premium ? Insurance is based on the idea that only a fraction of insurance buyers will face really high costs, and because in the absence of risky habits it cannot be predicted who, the cost will be distributed among all buyers.

Really? I’ve had damage done to my car that wasn’t my fault and putting in a claim raised the insurance.

GOPe leadership has got to go ASAP

WE CAN'T GET RID OF THEM. This last election was a stinging rebuke of not just establishment dems, but the Jeb/Romney/Kasick globalist elite party. US Senators and HOR members LIED to get elected. Then what do they do? They beg Ryan to be Speaker!

The way I compare it is: President Trump brought an aquarium full of fresh clean water with him to the WH. We tasked him with filling it with creatures who were not disease and pollution ridden. Unfortunately, he's put a real lot of swamp creatures in his aquarium. You put swamp creatures in pure fresh water, and what do you get? Swamp water!

Who has to go....anyone with ties to the liberal and/or globalist elite. And that includes the Prince and Princess.

TIME for these elite a-holes to be subject to the SAME laws they pass on the rest of us. VOTE ‘EM ALL OUT.

It’s 26, which isn’t terribly absurd when you consider the age a person graduates after going for a doctorate.

Not acceptable. All laws that apply to us MUST apply to them as well.

They say it's a Byrd Rule thing.
They're working to get around it.

The insurance companies and medical profession can’t be allowed to police themselves anymore. That’s how we got the high medical costs we have now.

Human nature. When someone else is paying (insurance), demand goes up. See a doctor for a hangnail, a common cold, an itch. If we had to pay for those visits we'd ration the use more carefully. And we don't "shop around" for a price on the services; hey, someone else is paying!

535? lol That is only the ones in DC. There are 10’s of thousands waiting in the wings (cities and states) to get up to the next level.

I don’t believe there is any such law that prohibits Congress from exempting itself from the laws it passes. They don’t pay into Social Security for instance.

Such an amendment should be the first one passed by a convention of states though. All Americans should be in the same boat and sink or swim together.

Another FReeper posted something earlier that covered this. I saved it, but regrettably forgot to save the FReeper's name. Here it is:

Congressional Reform Act of 2017

1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman / woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 3/1/17. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.

Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work.

(I added) Call, write or email your member of congress and demand that this be debated and enacted. Target those who oppose it for removal in the next election cycle.

It’s a little absurd that it exists at all.

But no fear, those of us without kids are glad to pick up the difference :)

That’s capitalism. No wait..its not :)

Is there not a couple of Republican congresscritters who WILL write a bill that removes all exemptions for laws and regulations Americans are subjected too?

Call me surprised when those bitching and ‘disgusted’ pull the lever for anything over party.

How’s that ‘lesser of two’ working out? Any feet being held to the fire? Still looking for that dime of difference myself. Them calls for ‘smaller govt’ and to the Constitution sure seem to have died off since the election. Hear more from the minority party than the majority ‘leadership’; funny that, no?

The (R) has their own ignorant, voluntary slaves on the plantation. Same ones in a few months again chastising re: “vote for X is a vote for DEMs”.

Pols gets finished protecting and feathering their own nests, they won’t be giving 2 sh!ts about anything else in their “helpful” *repeal*...and replace w/ THEIR Fascism.
