Trump and the Chinese primer are correct. Korea used to be part of 2 different Chinese empires. The Koreans just really dislike the idea that they’re always someone’s bitch.

The Tang dynasty at one time held much of Korea although the fighting was pretty continuous.
If someone told me China used to dip down into Korea, I wouldn’t know it didn’t at some point.
